देवस्य देवस्य निवेशने च; विजित्य लॊकान अवसं यथेष्टम संपूज्यमानस तरिदशैः समस्तैस; तुल्यप्रभाव दयुतिर ईश्वराणाम ॥ १-८४-१६ ॥
'In the abodes of each god, having conquered the worlds, I resided as I wished, honored by all the celestial beings. I was of equal influence and radiance among the lords.' ॥ 1-84-16 ॥

तथावसं नन्दने कामरूपी; संवत्सराणाम अयुतं शतानाम सहाप्सरॊभिर विहरन पुण्यगन्धान; पश्यन्न नगान पुष्पितांश चारुरूपान ॥ १-८४-१७ ॥
'With the ability to take any form at whim, I spent a million years in the celestial gardens of Nandana, frolicking with the Apsaras and admiring countless exquisite trees adorned in floral attire, spreading delightful fragrance all around.' ॥ 1-84-17 ॥

तत्रस्थं मां देव सुखेषु सक्तं; काले ऽतीते महति ततॊ ऽतिमात्रम दूतॊ देवानाम अब्रवीद उग्ररूपॊ; धवंसेत्य उच्चैस तरिः पलुतेन सवरेण ॥ १-८४-१८ ॥
'After countless years had passed, as I continued to dwell there in the bliss of perfect contentment, suddenly, one day, the celestial messenger, with a stern countenance, shouted loudly and repeatedly, "Destroyed! Destroyed! Destroyed!"' ॥ 1-84-18 ॥

एतावन मे विदितं राजसिंह; ततॊ भरष्टॊ ऽहं नन्दनात कषीणपुण्यः वाचॊ ऽशरौषं चान्तरिक्षे सुराणाम; अनुक्रॊशाच छॊचतां मानवेन्द्र ॥ १-८४-१९ ॥
'O lion among kings, this is all I recall. Then, from Nandana, I fell, my religious merits exhausted. In the heavens, I heard the lamentations of the gods, O king. They mourned, 'Alas, what a tragedy! Yayati, despite his virtue and sacred deeds, is descending, his religious merits depleted!'' ॥ 1-84-19 ॥

अहॊ कष्टं कषीणपुण्यॊ ययातिः; पतत्य असौ पुण्यकृत पुण्यकीर्तिः तान अब्रुवं पतमानस ततॊ ऽहं; सतां मध्ये निपतेयं कथं नु ॥ १-८४-२० ॥
'Alas, what distress! Yayati, once rich in merit, is now falling. He, who was renowned for his virtuous deeds, is now descending. I then asked myself, 'How could I fall among the righteous?'' ॥ 1-84-20 ॥
