[व] ततः कषत्ता च राजा च भीष्मश च सह बन्धुभिः ददुः शराद्धं तदा पाण्डॊः सवधामृतमयं तदा ॥ १-११९-१ ॥

'Then, the charioteer and the king, along with Bhishma and his relatives, performed the funeral rites for Pandu, offering the oblations made of nectar.' ॥ 1-119-1 ॥

कुरूंश च विप्रमुख्यांश च भॊजयित्वा सहस्रशः रत्नौघान दविजमुख्येभ्यॊ दत्त्वा गरामवरान अपि ॥ १-११९-२ ॥

'Having fed thousands of Kurus and eminent Brahmins, and having given heaps of jewels and also the best villages to the foremost of the twice-born.' ॥ 1-119-2 ॥

कृतशौचांस ततस तांस तु पाण्डवान भरतर्षभान आदाय विविशुः पौराः पुरं वारणसाह्वयम ॥ १-११९-३ ॥

'Then, having performed the purification rites, the citizens took the Pandavas, the best among the Bharatas, and entered the city of Varanasi' ॥ 1-119-3 ॥

सततं समान्वतप्यन्त तम एव भरतर्षभम पौरजानपदाः सर्वे मृतं सवम इव बान्धवम ॥ १-११९-४ ॥

'All the citizens, along with their dependents, constantly surrounded that foremost scion of the Bharata dynasty, as if he were a dear relative who had returned from the dead.' ॥ 1-119-4 ॥

शराद्धावसाने तु तदा दृष्ट्वा तं दुःखितं जनम संमूढां दुःखशॊकार्तां वयासॊ मातरम अब्रवीत ॥ १-११९-५ ॥

'After the Sraddha had been conducted as described earlier, the revered Vyasa, observing the grief-stricken state of all the subjects, approached his mother Satyavati one day and spoke.' ॥ 1-119-5 ॥
