जनमेजयः पारिक्षितः सह भरातृभिः कुरुक्षेत्रे दीर्घसत्त्रम उपास्ते तस्य भरातरस तरयः शरुतसेनॊग्रसेनॊ भीमसेन इति ॥ १-३-१ ॥

'Sauti said, "Janamejaya, the son of Parikshit, was, with his brothers, attending his long sacrifice on the plains of Kurukshetra. His brothers were three, Srutasena, Ugrasena, and Bhimasena." ' ॥ 1-3-1 ॥

तेषु तत सत्रम उपासीनेषु तत्र शवाभ्यागच्छत सारमेयः सजनमेजयस्य भरातृभिर अभिहतॊ रॊरूयमाणॊ मातुः समीपम उपागच्छत ॥ १-३-२ ॥

'And as they were sitting at the sacrifice, there arrived at the spot an offspring of Sarama (the celestial bitch). And belabored by the brothers of Janamejaya, he ran away to his mother, crying in pain. ' ॥ 1-3-2 ॥

तं माता रॊरूयमाणम उवाच किं रॊदिषि केनास्य अभिहत इति ॥ १-३-३ ॥

'His mother, observing his intense tears, inquired gently, "Why do you weep so profusely? Who has inflicted harm upon you?" ' ॥ 1-3-3 ॥

'And being thus questioned, he said unto his mother, 'I have been belabored by the brothers of Janamejaya.' ' ॥ 1-3-4 ॥
