[आर्ह] तापत्य इति यद वाक्यम उक्तवान असि माम इह तद अहं जञातुम इच्छामि तापत्यार्थ विनिश्चयम ॥ १-१६०-१ ॥

'Arjuna said, 'You have referred to me several times as 'son of Tapati.' Therefore, I wish to understand the exact meaning of this term.' ॥ 1-160-1 ॥

तपती नाम का चैषा तापत्या यत्कृते वयम कौन्तेया हि वयं साधॊ तत्त्वम इच्छामि वेदितुम ॥ १-१६०-२ ॥

'What is the significance of the name 'Tapati' that you've mentioned? We, the sons of Kunti, are indeed eager to understand its true meaning.' ॥ 1-160-2 ॥

[वै] एवम उक्तः स गन्धर्वः कुन्तीपुत्रं धनंजयम विश्रुतां तरिषु लॊकेषु शरावयाम आस वै कथाम ॥ १-१६०-३ ॥

'Vaisampayana continued, 'Upon hearing this, the Gandharva narrated to Dhananjaya, the son of Kunti, the well-known story that resounded throughout the three worlds.'' ॥ 1-160-3 ॥

[ग] हन्त ते कथयिष्यामि कथाम एतां मनॊरमाम यथावद अखिलां पार्थ धर्म्यां धर्मभृतां वर ॥ १-१६०-४ ॥

'The Gandharva replied, 'O son of Pritha, O foremost among the wise, I shall narrate to you this delightful tale in its entirety.'' ॥ 1-160-4 ॥
