[वै] तेन शब्देन वित्रस्तॊ जनस तस्याथ रक्षसः निष्पपात गृहाद राजन सहैव परिचारिभिः ॥ १-१५२-१ ॥

'Vaisampayana narrated, "Then Vaka, huge as a mountain, died, broken on Bhima's knee, uttering frightful yells. Terrified by these sounds, the relatives of the Rakshasa came out with their attendants.' ॥ 1-152-1 ॥

तान भीतान विगतज्ञानान भीमः परहरतां वरः सान्त्वयाम आस बलवान समये च नयवेशयत ॥ १-१५२-२ ॥

'Bhima, the foremost of smiters, seeing them so terrified and deprived of reason, comforted them and made them promise to give up cannibalism.' ॥ 1-152-2 ॥

न हिंस्या मानुषा भूयॊ युष्माभिर इह कर्हि चित हिंसतां हि वधः शीघ्रम एवम एव भवेद इति ॥ १-१५२-३ ॥

'He said, 'Do not ever again kill human beings. If you kill men, you will meet the same fate as Vaka.'' ॥ 1-152-3 ॥

तस्य तद वचनं शरुत्वा तानि रक्षांसि भारत एवम अस्त्व इति तं पराहुर जगृहुः समयं च तम ॥ १-१५२-४ ॥

'Hearing this, the Rakshasas agreed, saying, 'So be it,' and gave the desired promise.' ॥ 1-152-4 ॥

ततः परभृति रक्षांसि तत्र सौम्यानि भारत नगरे परत्यदृश्यन्त नरैर नगरवासिभिः ॥ १-१५२-५ ॥

'From that day, the Rakshasas of the region were seen to be very peaceful towards mankind.' ॥ 1-152-5 ॥
