[वै] एतच छरुत्वा तु कौन्तेयाः शल्यविद्धा इवाभवन सर्वे चास्वस्थ मनसॊ बभूवुस ते महारथाः ॥ १-१५६-१ ॥

'Vaisampayana narrated, 'Upon hearing the Brahmana's words, the sons of Kunti felt as if struck by arrows. Indeed, all those mighty heroes became unsettled in their minds.' ॥ 1-156-1 ॥

ततः कुन्तीसुतान दृष्ट्वा विभ्रान्तान गतचेतसः युधिष्ठिरम उवाचेदं वचनं सत्यवादिनी ॥ १-१५६-२ ॥

'After witnessing her sons, all seeming disheartened and distracted, the honest Kunti turned to Yudhishthira and spoke:' ॥ 1-156-2 ॥

चिररात्रॊषिताः समेह बराह्मणस्य निवेशने रममाणाः पुरे रम्ये लब्धभैक्षा युधिष्ठिर ॥ १-१५६-३ ॥

'We have spent numerous nights in the dwelling of this Brahmana. In this delightful town, we have enjoyed our time, sustaining ourselves on the alms given by many virtuous and esteemed individuals.' ॥ 1-156-3 ॥

यानीह रमणीयानि वनान्य उपवनानि च सर्वाणि तानि दृष्टानि पुनः पुनर अरिंदम ॥ १-१५६-४ ॥

'O vanquisher of foes, having repeatedly beheld all these delightful forests and groves in this region, seeing them again would no longer bring any pleasure.' ॥ 1-156-4 ॥

पुनर दृष्टानि तान्य एव परीणयन्ति न नस तथा भैक्षं च न तथा वीर लभ्यते कुरुनन्दन ॥ १-१५६-५ ॥

'Again seeing those same places does not bring the same joy, O hero, nor is alms obtained in the same way, O scion of the Kurus.' ॥ 1-156-5 ॥
