[वै] तस्मै दित्सति कन्यां तु बराह्मणाय महात्मने कॊप आसीन महीपानाम आलॊक्यान्यॊन्यम अन्तिकात ॥ १-१८०-१ ॥

'Vaisampayana said, 'When King Drupada expressed his intention to bestow his daughter upon that Brahmana who had hit the mark, all the monarchs invited to the Swayamvara looked at each other, suddenly filled with wrath.'' ॥ 1-180-1 ॥

अस्मान अयम अतिक्रम्य तृणी कृत्यच संगतान दातुम इच्छति विप्राय दरौपदीं यॊषितां वराम ॥ १-१८०-२ ॥

'They said, "By surpassing us and treating the assembled monarchs as mere straw, Drupada desires to bestow his daughter, that foremost of women, upon a Brahmana!"' ॥ 1-180-2 ॥

निहन्मैनं दुरात्मानं यॊ ऽयम अस्मान न मन्यते न हय अर्हत्य एष सत्कारं नापि वृद्धक्रमं गुणैः ॥ १-१८०-३ ॥

'He plants the tree and cuts it down just as it is about to bear fruit. This wretch does not regard us; therefore, let us slay him. He does not deserve our respect nor the reverence due to age.' ॥ 1-180-3 ॥

हन्मैनं सह पुत्रेण दुराचारं नृप दविषम अयं हि सर्वान आहूय सत्कृत्य च नराधिपान गुणवद भॊजयित्वा च ततः पश्चाद विनिन्दति ॥ १-१८०-४ ॥

'Because of such actions, we shall therefore slay this wretch who insults all kings, along with his son. After inviting all the monarchs and entertaining them with excellent food, he ultimately disregards us.' ॥ 1-180-4 ॥

'In this assembly of monarchs, akin to a conclave of celestials, does he not see a single monarch equal to himself?' ॥ 1-180-5 ॥
