सू] एवं सतुतस तदा कद्र्वा भगवान हरिवाहनः नीलजीमूतसंघातैर वयॊम सर्वं समावृणॊत ॥ १-२२-१ ॥

'Sauti said, 'And then Indra, the king of gods, having the best of horses for his bearer, thus adored by Kadru, covered the entire firmament with masses of blue clouds.' ॥ 1-22-1 ॥

ते मेघा मुमुचुस तॊयं परभूतं विद्युद उज्ज्वलाः परस्परम इवात्यर्थं गर्जन्तः सततं दिवि ॥ १-२२-२ ॥

'And he commanded the clouds, saying, Pour ye, your vivifying and blessed drops!' And those clouds, luminous with lightning, and incessantly roaring against each other in the welkin, poured abundant water.' ॥ 1-22-2 ॥

संघातितम इवाकाशं जलदैः सुमहाद्भुतैः सृजद्भिर अतुलं तॊयम अजस्रं सुमहारवैः ॥ १-२२-३ ॥

'And the sky, in consequence of those wonderful and terribly-roaring clouds that were incessantly begetting vast quantities of water, looked as if the end of Yuga had come.' ॥ 1-22-3 ॥

संप्रनृत्तम इवाकाशं धारॊर्मिभिर अनेकशः मेघस्तनित निर्घॊषम अम्बरं समपद्यत ॥ १-२२-४ ॥

'And in consequence of the myriads of waves caused in the falling torrents, the deep roar of the clouds, the flashes of lightning, the violence of the wind, and the general agitation, the sky looked as if dancing in madness.' ॥ 1-22-4 ॥

नागानाम उत्तमॊ हर्शस तदा वर्षति वासवे आपूर्यत मही चापि सलिलेन समन्ततः ॥ १-२२-५ ॥

'And upon Indra's causing that downpour, the Nagas became exceedingly delighted. And the Earth was filled with water all around. And the cool, clear water reached even the nether regions. And there were countless waves of water all over the Earth.' ॥ 1-22-5 ॥
