[व] परतिज्ञाय तु दुःषन्ते परतियाते शकुन्तला गर्भं सुषाव वामॊरुः कुमारम अमितौजसम ॥ १-६८-१ ॥

'Vaisampayana narrated, "Following Dushmanta's departure from the hermitage, after giving his word to Shakuntala, she, of slender thighs, gave birth to a son endowed with boundless vitality."' ॥ 1-68-1 ॥

english translation

तरिषु वर्षेषु पूर्णेषु दिप्तानल समद्युतिम रूपौदार्यगुणॊपेतं दौःषन्तिं जनमेजय ॥ १-६८-२ ॥

'And when the child was three years old, he became in splendor like the blazing fire. And, O Janamejaya, he was possessed of beauty and magnanimity and every accomplishment.' ॥ 1-68-2 ॥

english translation

जातकर्मादि संस्कारं कण्वः पुण्यकृतां वरः तस्याथ कारयाम आस वर्धमानस्य धीमतः ॥ १-६८-३ ॥

'And that first of virtuous men, Kanwa, caused all the rites of religion to be performed in respect of that intelligent child thriving day by day.' ॥ 1-68-3 ॥

english translation

दन्तैः शुक्लैः शिखरिभिः सिंहसंहननॊ युवा चक्राङ्कित करः शरीमान महामूर्धा महाबलः कुमारॊ देवगर्भाभः स तत्राशु वयवर्धत ॥ १-६८-४ ॥

'And the boy gifted with pearly teeth and shining locks, capable of slaying lions even then, with all auspicious signs on his palm, and broad expansive forehead, grew up in beauty and strength. And like unto a celestial child in splendour, he began to grow up rapidly.' ॥ 1-68-4 ॥

english translation

षड वर्ष एव बालः स कण्वाश्रमपदं परति वयाघ्रान सिंहान वराहांश च गजांश च महिषांस तथा ॥ १-६८-५ ॥

'At the tender age of six, he exhibited remarkable strength by capturing and restraining lions, tigers, bears, buffaloes, and elephants, binding them to the trees surrounding the hermitage.' ॥ 1-68-5 ॥
