स] स चापि चयवनॊ बरह्मन भार्गवॊ ऽजनयत सुतम सुकन्यायां महात्मानं परमतिं दीप्ततेजसम ॥ १-८-१ ॥
'Sauti narrated, 'O Brahmana, Chyavana, the son of Bhrigu, fathered a son in the womb of his wife Sukanya, and that illustrious son was named Pramati, endowed with radiant energy.'॥ 1-8-1 ॥
english translation
परमतिस तु रुरुं नाम घृताच्यां समजीजनत रुरुः परमद्वरायां तु शुनकं समजीजनत ॥ १-८-२ ॥
'And Pramati begot in the womb of Ghritachi a son called Ruru. And Ruru begot on his wife Pramadvara a son called Sunaka.'॥ 1-8-2 ॥
english translation
तस्य बरह्मन रुरॊः सर्वं चरितं भूरि तेजसः विस्तरेण परवक्ष्यामि तच छृणु तवम अशेषतः ॥ १-८-३ ॥
'The illustrious life story of Ruru, O Brahmana, is expansive and radiant. I shall narrate it in detail; listen attentively.'॥ 1-8-3 ॥
english translation
ऋषिर आसीन महान पूर्वं तपॊ विद्या समन्वितः सथूलकेश इति खयातः सर्वभूतहिते रतः ॥ १-८-४ ॥
'Once upon a time, there existed a venerable sage named Sthulakesa, distinguished by his ascetic prowess, profound knowledge, and benevolence towards all living beings.'॥ 1-8-4 ॥
english translation
एतस्मिन्न एव काले तु मेनकायां परजज्ञिवान गन्धर्वराजॊ विप्रर्षे विश्वावसुर इति शरुतः ॥ १-८-५ ॥
'At that period, O venerable Brahmana sage, it is recounted that Vishvavasu, the King of the Gandharvas, had a union with Menaka, the celestial dancer.'॥ 1-8-5 ॥
