[वस] मा भैः पुत्रि न भेतव्यं रक्षसस ते कथं चन नैतद रक्षॊभयं यस्मात पश्यसि तवम उपस्थितम ॥ १-१६८-१ ॥

'Vasishtha, hearing this, said, Fear not, O daughter, for no Rakshasa can bring you harm. The imminent danger you perceive is not from a Rakshasa, but from another source that stands before you.' ॥ 1-168-1 ॥

राजा कल्माषपादॊ ऽयं वीर्यवान परथितॊ भुवि स एषॊ ऽसमिन वनॊद्देशे निवसत्य अतिभीषणः ॥ १-१६८-२ ॥

'Behold, the mighty King Kalmashapada, whose valor echoes throughout the world; it is he, the terrifying sovereign, who makes his abode in this wild expanse of the forest.' ॥ 1-168-2 ॥

[ग] तम आपतन्तं संप्रेक्ष्य वसिष्ठॊ भगवान ऋषिः वारयाम आस तेजस्वी हुंकरेणैव भारत ॥ १-१६८-३ ॥

'The Gandharva continued, 'As the king advanced with menacing intent, the illustrious Rishi Vasishtha, his form luminous with transcendent energy, arrested the monarch's charge, O scion of Bharata, with but a single utterance of the sacred syllable "Hum"' ॥ 1-168-3 ॥

मन्त्रपूतेन च पुनः स तम अभ्युक्ष्य वारिणा मॊक्षयाम आस वै घॊराद राक्षसाद राजसत्तमम ॥ १-१६८-४ ॥

'Thereupon, the sage, sprinkling the monarch with water sanctified by sacred incantations, did verily deliver this foremost of kings from the clutches of the terrible Rakshasa that possessed him.' ॥ 1-168-4 ॥

स हि दवादश वर्षाणि वसिष्ठस्यैव तेजसा गरस्त आसीद गृहेणेव पर्वकाले दिवाकरः ॥ १-१६८-५ ॥

'For twelve long years, this monarch had been engulfed by the searing energy of Vasishtha's son, even as the radiant Surya is seized by the shadowy grasp of Rahu during the celestial drama of an eclipse.' ॥ 1-168-5 ॥
