[स] शरुत्वा तु वचनं तेषां सर्वेषाम इति चेति च वासुकेश च वचः शरुत्वा एलापत्रॊ ऽबरवीद इदम ॥ १-३४-१ ॥
'Sauti said, 'Hearing the respective speeches of all the snakes, and hearing also the words of Vasuki, Elapatra began to address them.' ॥ 1-34-1 ॥
english translation
न स यज्ञॊ न भविता न स राजा तथाविधः जनमेजयः पाण्डवेयॊ यतॊ ऽसमाकं महाभयम ॥ १-३४-२ ॥
'The sacrifice is inevitable and cannot be thwarted. Similarly, King Janamejaya of the Pandava lineage, from whom this fear emanates, is not someone who can be obstructed.' ॥ 1-34-2 ॥
english translation
दैवेनॊपहतॊ राजन्यॊ भवेद इह पूरुषः स दैवम एवाश्रयते नान्यत तत्र परायणम ॥ १-३४-३ ॥
'The person, O king, who is afflicted by fate hath recourse to fate alone; nothing else can be his refuge.' ॥ 1-34-3 ॥
english translation
तद इदं दैवम अस्माकं भयं पन्नगसत्तमाः दैवम एवाश्रयामॊ ऽतर शृणुध्वं च वचॊ मम ॥ १-३४-४ ॥
'O best of serpents, the root cause of our fear lies in destiny. We must seek refuge in destiny alone. Pay heed to my words.' ॥ 1-34-4 ॥

अहं शापे समुत्सृष्टे समश्रौषं वचस तदा मातुर उत्सङ्गम आरूढॊ भयात पन्नगसत्तमाः ॥ १-३४-५ ॥
'When that curse was pronounced, O best of serpents, I, in fear, lay crouching on the lap of our mother.' ॥ 1-34-5 ॥
