देवानां पन्नगश्रेष्ठास तीक्ष्णास तीक्ष्णा इति परभॊ पितामहम उपागम्य दुःखार्तानां महाद्युते ॥ १-३४-६ ॥

sanskrit

'O best of serpents, and O illustrious lord Vasuki, from that position, I heard the words spoken by the grieving gods to the Grandsire.' ॥ 1-34-6 ॥

'The gods spoke, "O Grandsire, the divine ruler of all gods, who but the relentless Kadru, after receiving such beloved offspring, would dare to cast such a curse, even in your august presence?"' ॥ 1-34-7 ॥

[devAha] kA hi labdhvA pariyAna putrAJa zapeda evaM pitAmaha Rte kadrUM tIkSNarUpAM devadeva tavAgrataH ॥ 1-34-7 ॥

'And, O Grandsire, by thee also hath been spoken, concerning those words of hers, 'Be it so.' We wish to know the reason why thou didst not prevent her.' ॥ 1-34-8 ॥

tatheti ca vacasa tasyAsa tavayApya uktaM pitAmaha etada icchAma vijJAtuM kAraNaM yana na vAritA ॥ 1-34-8 ॥

[बर] बहवः पन्नगास तीक्ष्णा भीमवीर्या विषॊल्बणाः परजानां हितकामॊ ऽहं न निवारितवांस तदा ॥ १-३४-९ ॥

'Brahman replied, 'The snakes have multiplied. They are cruel, terrible in form, and highly poisonous. From the desire of the good of my creatures, I did not prevent Kadru then.' ॥ 1-34-9 ॥

'Those poisonous serpents and others who are sinful, biting others for no faults, shall, indeed, be destroyed, but not they who are harmless and virtuous.' ॥ 1-34-10 ॥
