[वै] ततस ते सर्व एवैनं पुत्राः सम्यग उपासिरे स च तान आत्मजान राजन्न आश्वासयितुम आरभत ॥ १-२२५-१ ॥

'Vaisampayana narrated, "Mandapala then spoke to his children, saying, 'I had prayed to Agni for your safety. The revered deity had assured me that he would fulfill my request.' ॥ 1-225-1 ॥

अग्नेर वचनम आज्ञाय मातुर धर्मज्ञतां च वः युष्माकं च परं वीर्यं नाहं पूर्वम इहागतः ॥ १-२२५-२ ॥

'Upon hearing Agni's words and recognizing your mother's virtuous nature, as well as the immense strength within you all, I did not arrive here sooner.' ॥ 1-225-2 ॥

न संतापॊ हि वः कार्यः पुत्रका मरणं परति ऋषीन वेद हुताशॊ ऽपि बरह्म तद विदितं च वः ॥ १-२२५-३ ॥

'Therefore, my sons, do not hold any resentment towards me in your hearts. You are all sages well-versed in the Vedas. Even Agni himself knows you well.' ॥ 1-225-3 ॥

[वै] एवम आश्वास्य पुत्रान स भर्यां चादाय भारत मन्दपालस ततॊ देशाद अन्यं देशं जगाम ह ॥ १-२२५-४ ॥

'Vaisampayana continued, "After reassuring his sons in this manner, the Brahmana Mandapala took his wife and sons with him, and departed from that region to another country."' ॥ 1-225-4 ॥

मघवान अपि तिग्मांशुः समिद्धं खाण्डवं वनम ददाह सह कृष्णाभ्यां जनयञ जगतॊ ऽभयम ॥ १-२२५-५ ॥

'It was thus that the illustrious god of fierce rays, having grown stronger, consumed the forest of Khandava with the assistance of Krishna and Arjuna, for the benefit of the world.' ॥ 1-225-5 ॥
