[आर्ज] अस्माकम अनुरूपॊ वै यः सयाद गन्धर्व वेदवित पुरॊहितस तम आचक्ष्व सर्वं हि विदितं तव ॥ १-१७४-१ ॥

'Arjuna asked, 'O Gandharva, you are well-versed in everything. Therefore, tell us which Brahmana, knowledgeable in the Vedas, would be suitable to appoint as our priest.'' ॥ 1-174-1 ॥

english translation

[ग] यवीयान देवलस्यैष वने भराता तपस्यति धौम्य उत्कॊचके तीर्थे तं वृणुध्वं यदीच्छथ ॥ १-१७४-२ ॥

'The Gandharva replied, 'In these woods, there is a shrine known as Utkochaka. Dhaumya, the younger brother of Devala, is engaged in ascetic penances there. If you desire, appoint him as your priest.'' ॥ 1-174-2 ॥

english translation

[वै] ततॊ ऽरजुनॊ ऽसत्रम आग्नेयं परददौ तद यथाविधि गन्धर्वाय तदा परीतॊ वचनं चेदम अब्रवीत ॥ १-१७४-३ ॥

'Vaisampayana said, 'Then Arjuna, highly pleased with all that had transpired, gave unto the Gandharva his weapon of fire, performing the necessary rituals. Addressing the Gandharva, the Pandava spoke these words:' ॥ 1-174-3 ॥

तवय्य एव तावत तिष्ठन्तु हया गन्धर्वसत्तम कर्मकाले गरहीष्यामि सवस्ति ते ऽसव इति चाब्रवीत ॥ १-१७४-४ ॥

'O best of Gandharvas, let the horses you have given us remain with you for now. When the need arises, we shall claim them from you. Blessings be upon you.' ॥ 1-174-4 ॥

english translation

ते ऽनयॊन्यम अभिसंपूज्य गन्धर्वः पाण्डवाश च ह रम्याद भागी रथी कच्छाद यथाकामं परतस्थिरे ॥ १-१७४-५ ॥

'Then the Gandharva and the Pandavas, respectfully saluting each other, departed from the delightful banks of the Bhagirathi and went wheresoever they desired.' ॥ 1-174-5 ॥
