[वसिस्ठ] यैषां ते तपती नाम सावित्र्य अवरजा सुता तां तवां संवरणस्यार्थे वरयामि विभावसॊ ॥ १-१६३-१ ॥

'Sage Vasishtha approaches the Sun god Vivasvat, seeking the hand of his younger daughter Tapati in marriage for King Samvarana.' ॥ 1-163-1 ॥

स हि राजा बृहत कीर्तिर धर्मार्थविद उदारधीः युक्तः संवरणॊ भर्ता दुहितुस ते विहंगम ॥ १-१६३-२ ॥

'For he is a king of great fame, knower of dharma and artha, noble-minded; Samvarana is a worthy husband for your daughter, O bird-like one (Sun).' ॥ 1-163-2 ॥

[गन्धर्व] इत्य उक्तः सविता तेन ददानीत्य एव निश्चितः परत्यभाषत तं विप्रं परतिनन्द्य दिवाकरः ॥ १-१६३-३ ॥

'Moved by Vasishtha's appeal, the Sun god Savita decisively consents to give his daughter Tapati in marriage to King Samvarana and warmly responds to the sage's proposal.' ॥ 1-163-3 ॥

वरः संवरणॊ राज्ञां तवम ऋषीणां वरॊ मुने तपती यॊषितां शरेष्ठा किम अन्यत्रापवर्जनात ॥ १-१६३-४ ॥

'Samvarana is the best among kings, you (Vasishtha) are the best among sages, O muni. Tapati is the most excellent among women. What else is there but acceptance?' ॥ 1-163-4 ॥

ततः सर्वानवद्याग्नीं तपतीं तपनः सवयम ददौ संवरणस्यार्थे वषिष्ठाय महात्मने परतिजग्राह तां कन्यां महर्षिस तपतीं तदा ॥ १-१६३-५ ॥

'In a solemn ceremony, the Sun god himself bestows his flawless, resplendent daughter Tapati upon the great sage Vasishtha for her marriage to King Samvarana, and Vasishtha reverently accepts the radiant maiden on the king's behalf.' ॥ 1-163-5 ॥
