[स] ततस तमिन दविजश्रेष्ठ समुदीर्णे तथाविधे गरुत्मान पक्षिराट तूर्णं संप्राप्तॊ विबुधान परति ॥ १-१८-१ ॥

'Sauti said, 'O foremost of Brahmanas, the gods having prepared for battle in that way, Garuda, the king of birds, soon came upon those wise ones.' ॥ 1-28-1 ॥

तं दृष्ट्वातिबलं चैव पराकम्पन्त समन्ततः परस्परं च परत्यघ्नन सर्वप्रहरणान्य अपि ॥ १-१८-२ ॥

'And the gods beholding him of excessive strength began to quake with fear, and strike one another with all their weapons.' ॥ 1-28-2 ॥

तत्र चासीद अमेयात्मा विद्युद अग्निसमप्रभः भौवनः सुमहावीर्यः सॊमस्य परिरक्षिता ॥ १-१८-३ ॥

'And amongst those that guarded the Soma was Brahmana (the celestial architect), of measureless might, effulgent as the electric fire and of great energy.' ॥ 1-28-3 ॥

स तेन पतगेन्द्रेण पक्षतुण्ड नखैः कषतः मुहूर्तम अतुलं युद्धं कृत्वा विनिहतॊ युधि ॥ १-१८-४ ॥

'And after a terrific encounter lasting only a moment, managed by the lord of birds with his talons, beak, and wings, he lay as dead on the fields.' ॥ 1-28-4 ॥

रजश चॊद्धूय सुमहत पक्षवातेन खेचरः कृत्वा लॊकान निरालॊकांस तेन देवान अवाकिरत ॥ १-१८-५ ॥

'And the ranger of the skies making the worlds dark with the dust raised by the hurricane of his wings overwhelmed the celestials with it. And the latter, overwhelmed with that dust, swooned away.' ॥ 1-28-5 ॥
