[ग] कल्माषपाद इत्य अस्मिँल लॊके राजा बभूव ह इक्ष्वाकुवंशजः पार्थ तेजसासदृशॊ भुवि ॥ १-१६६-१ ॥
'The Gandharva continued, O Partha (Arjuna), in this world there was a king named Kalmashapada, born in the Ikshvaku dynasty, who was unparalleled in his radiance on earth.' ॥ 1-166-1 ॥

[ga] kalmASapAda itya asmi~la lòke rAjA babhUva ha ikSvAkuvaMzajaH pArtha tejasAsadRzò bhuvi ॥ 1-166-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस कदा चिद वनं राजा मृगयां निर्ययौ पुरात मृगान विध्यन वराहांश च चचार रिपुमर्दनः ॥ १-१६६-२ ॥
'Once upon a time, the king (Kalmashapada) went out from the city to the forest for hunting. The enemy-destroyer (king) roamed about, piercing deer and boars.' ॥ 1-166-2 ॥
english translation
sa kadA cida vanaM rAjA mRgayAM niryayau purAta mRgAna vidhyana varAhAMza ca cacAra ripumardanaH ॥ 1-166-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस तु राजा महात्मानं वासिष्ठम ऋषिसात्तमम तृषार्तश च कषुधार्तश च एकायनगतः पथि ॥ १-१६६-३ ॥
'As the monarch, afflicted with hunger and thirst, made his way through the woods, he encountered the illustrious son of Vasishtha, that most revered of Rishis, traveling along the same path.' ॥ 1-166-3 ॥

sa tu rAjA mahAtmAnaM vAsiSThama RSisAttamama tRSArtaza ca kaSudhArtaza ca ekAyanagataH pathi ॥ 1-166-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअपश्यद अजितः संख्ये मुनिं परतिमुखागतम शक्तिं नाम महाभागं वसिष्ठ कुलनन्दनम जयेष्ठं पुत्रशतात पुत्रं वसिष्ठस्य महात्मनः ॥ १-१६६-४ ॥
'The king, ever victorious in battle, saw the Muni named Sakti, the illustrious propagator of Vasishtha's race and the eldest of the high-souled Vasishtha's hundred sons, approaching from the opposite direction.' ॥ 1-166-4 ॥
english translation
apazyada ajitaH saMkhye muniM paratimukhAgatama zaktiM nAma mahAbhAgaM vasiSTha kulanandanama jayeSThaM putrazatAta putraM vasiSThasya mahAtmanaH ॥ 1-166-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअपगच्छ पथॊ ऽसमाकम इत्य एवं पार्थिवॊ ऽबरवीत तथा ऋषिर उवाचैनं सान्त्वयञ शलक्ष्णया गिरा ॥ १-१६६-५ ॥
'The king (Kalmashapada) said thus: 'Move away from our path!' Thereupon, the sage (Shakti) spoke to him, consoling with gentle words.' ॥ 1-166-5 ॥

apagaccha pathò 'samAkama itya evaM pArthivò 'baravIta tathA RSira uvAcainaM sAntvayaJa zalakSNayA girA ॥ 1-166-5 ॥
