ऋषिस तु नापचक्राम तस्मिन दर्म पथे सथितः नापि राजा मुनेर मानात करॊधाच्च चापि जगाम ह ॥ १-१६६-६ ॥

'But the sage did not move away, standing firm on that narrow path. Nor did the king proceed, out of respect for the sage and also due to anger.' ॥ 1-166-6 ॥

english translation

RSisa tu nApacakrAma tasmina darma pathe sathitaH nApi rAjA munera mAnAta karòdhAcca cApi jagAma ha ॥ 1-166-6 ॥

अमुञ्चन्तं तु पन्थानं तम ऋषिं नृपसत्तमः जघान कशया मॊहात तदा राक्षसवन मुनिम ॥ १-१६६-७ ॥

'When the sage did not yield the path, the best among kings (Kalmashapada), deluded, then struck the sage with a whip, as if he were a demon.' ॥ 1-166-7 ॥

english translation

amuJcantaM tu panthAnaM tama RSiM nRpasattamaH jaghAna kazayA mòhAta tadA rAkSasavana munima ॥ 1-166-7 ॥

कशा परहाराभिहतस ततः स मुनिसत्तमः तं शशाप नृपश्रेष्ठं वासिष्ठः करॊधमूर्च्छितः ॥ १-१६६-८ ॥

'Thus provoked by the monarch, the best of Rishis, son of Vasishtha, was overcome with anger and, losing his composure, swiftly cursed the foremost of kings, saying.' ॥ 1-166-8 ॥

kazA parahArAbhihatasa tataH sa munisattamaH taM zazApa nRpazreSThaM vAsiSThaH karòdhamUrcchitaH ॥ 1-166-8 ॥

हंसि राक्षसवद यस्माद राजापसद तापसम तस्मात तवम अद्य परभृति पुरुषादॊ भविष्यसि ॥ १-१६६-९ ॥

'O worst of kings, since you persecute an ascetic like a Rakshasa, from this day forth, you shall become a Rakshasa, subsisting on human flesh!' ॥ 1-166-9 ॥

haMsi rAkSasavada yasmAda rAjApasada tApasama tasmAta tavama adya parabhRti puruSAdò bhaviSyasi ॥ 1-166-9 ॥

मनुष्यपिशिते सक्तश चरिष्यसि महीम इमाम गच्छ राजाधमेत्य उक्तः शक्तिना वीर्यशक्तिना ॥ १-१६६-१० ॥

'Addicted to human flesh, you shall roam this earth. 'Go, O vilest of kings!' Thus spoke Shakti, mighty in valor and power.' ॥ 1-166-10 ॥
