[य] नास्मद विधॊ ऽबराह्मणॊ बरह्मविच च; परतिग्रहे वर्तते राजमुख्य यथा परदेयं सततं दविजेभ्यस; तथाददं पूर्वम अहं नरेन्द्र ॥ १-८७-११ ॥
'Yayati replied, "O noble king, only a Brahmana well-versed in the knowledge of Brahman is eligible to receive gifts, not someone like me. And, O ruler, I have indeed given gifts to Brahmanas as is appropriate."' ॥ 1-87-11 ॥

नाब्राह्मणः कृपणॊ जातु जीवेद; या चापि सयाद बराह्मणी वीर पत्नी सॊ ऽहं यदैवाकृत पूर्वं चरेयं; विवित्समानः किम उ तत्र साधु ॥ १-८७-१२ ॥
'Let not a non-Brahmana, nor the wife of a learned Brahmana, live in dishonor by accepting gifts. On earth, I always sought to act virtuously. How can I accept a gift now, having never done so before?' ॥ 1-87-12 ॥

[परतर्दन] पृच्छामि तवां सपृहणीय रूप; परतर्दनॊ ऽहं यदि मे सन्ति लॊकाः यद्य अन्तरिक्षे यदि वा दिवि शरिताः; कषेत्रज्ञं तवां तस्य धर्मस्य मन्ये ॥ १-८७-१३ ॥
'Pratardana, one among them, inquired, 'O most graceful one, I am known as Pratardana. I inquire of thee whether there are any realms for me to enjoy as the fruit of my religious merits, either in heaven or in the celestial expanse. You, who are well-versed in all things, answer me.'' ॥ 1-87-13 ॥

[य] सन्ति लॊका बहवस ते नरेन्द्र; अप्य एकैकः सप्त सप्ताप्य अहानि मधु चयुतॊ घृतपृक्ता विशॊकास; ते नान्तवन्तः परतिपालयन्ति ॥ १-८७-१४ ॥
'Yayati replied, 'O king, countless worlds, brimming with joy, radiant like the sun, and where sorrow can never reside, await you. Even if you were to dwell in each of them for just seven days, they would remain inexhaustible.'' ॥ 1-87-14 ॥

[पर] तांस ते ददामि मा परपत परपातं; ये मे लॊकास तव ते वै भवन्तु यद्य अन्तरिक्षे यदि वा दिवि शरितास; तान आक्रम कषिप्रम अपेतमॊहः ॥ १-८७-१५ ॥
'Pratardana said, 'I offer these worlds to you. Hence, even if you fall, you shall not truly fall. May the realms that belong to me become yours, whether they reside in the heavens or in the celestial abode. Take them swiftly, and may your sorrows end.'' ॥ 1-87-15 ॥
