[य] न गराम्यम उपयुञ्जीत य आरण्यॊ मुनिर भवेत तथास्य वसतॊ ऽरण्ये गरामॊ भवति पृष्ठतः ।। १-८६-११ ।।

'Yayati explains, "One who aspires to be a forest-dwelling Muni should not indulge in village affairs. Yet, while he resides in the forest, the village remains metaphorically behind him."' ।। 1-86-11 ।।

english translation

[ya] na garAmyama upayuJjIta ya AraNyò munira bhaveta tathAsya vasatò 'raNye garAmò bhavati pRSThataH || 1-86-11 ||

अनग्निर अनिकेतश च अगॊत्र चरणॊ मुनिः कौपीनाच्छादनं यावत तावद इच्छेच च चीवरम ।। १-८६-१२ ।।

'A wise individual, detached from worldly pursuits, may reside in a village while embodying the essence of a hermit's life. Such a person should eschew all forms of pride—whether related to lineage, education, or social standing. Even when adorned with the simplest of garments, he may carry himself with the dignity of one robed in the finest attire.' ।। 1-86-12 ।।

anagnira aniketaza ca agòtra caraNò muniH kaupInAcchAdanaM yAvata tAvada iccheca ca cIvarama || 1-86-12 ||

यावत पराणाभिसंधानं तावद इच्छेच च भॊजनम तथास्य वसतॊ गरामे ऽरण्यं भवति पृष्ठतः ।। १-८६-१३ ।।

'He should be satisfied with just enough food to maintain life. Even living in a populated area, his spirit dwells in the solitude of the forest.' ।। 1-86-13 ।।

yAvata parANAbhisaMdhAnaM tAvada iccheca ca bhòjanama tathAsya vasatò garAme 'raNyaM bhavati pRSThataH || 1-86-13 ||

यस तु कामान परित्यज्य तयक्तकर्मा जितेन्द्रियः आतिष्ठेत मुनिर मौनं स लॊके सिद्धिम आप्नुयात ।। १-८६-१४ ।।

'The individual who, with complete control over their passions, embraces the vow of silence, abstains from action, and harbors no desires, achieves success.' ।। 1-86-14 ।।

english translation

yasa tu kAmAna parityajya tayaktakarmA jitendriyaH AtiSTheta munira maunaM sa lòke siddhima ApnuyAta || 1-86-14 ||

धौतदन्तं कृत्तनखं सदा सनातम अलंकृतम असितं सितकर्मस्थं कस तं नार्चितुम अर्हति ।। १-८६-१५ ।।

'Why indeed should one not honor the individual who consumes pure food, refrains from harming others, maintains a perpetually pure heart, embodies the radiance of ascetic virtues, and abstains from causing harm even when it may be permitted by religious doctrine?' ।। 1-86-15 ।।

dhautadantaM kRttanakhaM sadA sanAtama alaMkRtama asitaM sitakarmasthaM kasa taM nArcituma arhati || 1-86-15 ||
