अमावास्यां च पितरः पौर्णमास्यां च देवताः मन मुखेनैव हूयन्ते भुञ्जते च हुतं हविः सर्वभक्षः कथं तेषां भविष्यामि मुखं तव अहम ।। १-७-११।।

sanskrit

'During the new moon, the ancestors (Pitris) are nourished through me, and during the full moon, the deities (Devas) partake of the clarified butter poured upon me. Acting as their conduit, how then can I be the consumer of all things, both pure and impure?'।। 1-7-11 ।।

english translation

amAvAsyAM ca pitaraH paurNamAsyAM ca devatAH mana mukhenaiva hUyante bhuJjate ca hutaM haviH sarvabhakSaH kathaM teSAM bhaviSyAmi mukhaM tava ahama || 1-7-11||

'After contemplating for a while, Agni withdrew himself from all locations, including the daily homa sites of the Brahmanas, extensive sacrificial rituals, places of sacred rites, and various other ceremonies.'।। 1-7-12 ।।

'Deprived of their essential components—Oms, Vashats, Swadhas, and Swahas (sacrificial mantras during offerings)—the entire creation suffered greatly, distressed by the loss of their sacrificial fire.'।। 1-7-13 ।।

अथर्षयः समुद्विग्ना देवान गत्वाब्रुवन वचः अग्निनाशात करिया भरंशाद भरान्ता लॊकास तरयॊ ऽनघाः विधध्वम अत्र यत कार्यं न सयात कालात्ययॊ यथा ।। १-७-१४ ।।

'In deep concern, the Rishis approached the gods and implored, "O pure beings! The entire cosmos is in disarray as the rituals and ceremonies come to a halt due to the absence of fire. Please guide us on what needs to be done to remedy this situation promptly, avoiding any further delay."'।। 1-7-14 ।।

atharSayaH samudvignA devAna gatvAbruvana vacaH agninAzAta kariyA bharaMzAda bharAntA lòkAsa tarayò 'naghAH vidhadhvama atra yata kAryaM na sayAta kAlAtyayò yathA || 1-7-14 ||

'Then the Rishis and the gods went together to the presence of Brahma. And they represented to him all about the curse on Agni and the consequent interruption of all ceremonies.'।। 1-7-15 ।।
