भृगुणा वै महाभाग शप्तॊ ऽगनिः कारणान्तरे कथं देव मुखॊ भूत्वा यज्ञभागाग्र भुक तथा हुतभुक सर्वलॊकेषु सर्वभक्षत्वम एष्यति ।। १-७-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'They spoke, "O immensely fortunate one! Agni has been cursed by Bhrigu for a certain reason. As the mouth of the gods and the primary consumer of sacrificial offerings, including the clarified butter, how could Agni be reduced to the state of consuming all things indiscriminately?"'।। 1-7-16 ।।

english translation

bhRguNA vai mahAbhAga zaptò 'ganiH kAraNAntare kathaM deva mukhò bhUtvA yajJabhAgAgra bhuka tathA hutabhuka sarvalòkeSu sarvabhakSatvama eSyati || 1-7-16 ||

'Brahma spoke to Agni, the creator and eternal force like himself, with gentle words, "You are both the creator and destroyer of worlds. You uphold the three realms and foster all rituals and ceremonies. Therefore, conduct yourself in a manner that ensures the uninterrupted continuity of ceremonies."'।। 1-7-18 ।।

lòkAnAma iha sarveSAM tavaM kartA cAnta eva ca tavaM dhArayasi lòkAMsa tarIna kariyANAM ca paravartakaH sa tathA kuru lòkeza nòcchidyerana kariyA yathA || 1-7-18 ||

'Why, as the Supreme Lord and the all-encompassing fire, do you find yourself misled, O Agni? You are a sanctifying presence in the world, omnipresent and touching every living being.'।। 1-7-19 ।।

kasmAda evaM vimUDhasa tavama IzvaraH sana hutAzanaH tavaM pavitraM yadA lòke sarvabhUtagataza ca ha || 1-7-19 ||

न तवं सर्वशरीरेण सर्वभक्षत्वम एष्यसि उपादाने ऽरचिषॊ यास ते सर्वं धक्ष्यन्ति ताः शिखिन ।। १-७-२० ।।

'O bearer of flames, only the fire within your lower parts shall consume all things indiscriminately. Similarly, the body of yours, which partakes of flesh by residing in the stomachs of carnivorous animals, will also consume various things without distinction.'।। 1-7-20 ।।

na tavaM sarvazarIreNa sarvabhakSatvama eSyasi upAdAne 'raciSò yAsa te sarvaM dhakSyanti tAH zikhina || 1-7-20 ||
