[वै] इन्द्रप्रस्थे वसन्तस ते जघ्नुर अन्यान नराधिपान शासनाद धृतराष्ट्रस्य राज्ञः शांतनवस्य च ॥ १-२१४-१ ॥

'Vaisampayana said, 'The Pandavas, after taking up residence in Indraprastha at the command of Dhritarashtra and Bhishma, began to bring other kings under their sway.'' ॥ 1-214-1 ॥

[vai] indraprasthe vasantasa te jaghnura anyAna narAdhipAna zAsanAda dhRtarASTrasya rAjJaH zAMtanavasya ca ॥ 1-214-1 ॥

आश्रित्य धर्मराजानं सर्वलॊकॊ ऽवसत सुखम पुण्यलक्षणकर्माणं सवदेहम इव देहिनः ॥ १-२१४-२ ॥

'All the kingdom subjects lived most happily under the just rule of Yudhishthira, much like a soul dwelling joyfully in a body blessed with auspicious marks and virtuous deeds.' ॥ 1-214-2 ॥

Azritya dharmarAjAnaM sarvalòkò 'vasata sukhama puNyalakSaNakarmANaM savadehama iva dehinaH ॥ 1-214-2 ॥

स समं धर्मकामार्थान सिषेवे भरतर्षभः तरीन इवात्मसमान बन्धून बन्धुमान इव मानयन ॥ १-२१४-३ ॥

'And, O bull of Bharata's race, Yudhishthira paid homage to virtue, pleasure, and profit in judicious proportion, treating each as if it were a dear friend as precious as his self.' ॥ 1-214-3 ॥

sa samaM dharmakAmArthAna siSeve bharatarSabhaH tarIna ivAtmasamAna bandhUna bandhumAna iva mAnayana ॥ 1-214-3 ॥

तेषां समभिभक्तानां कषितौ देहवताम इव बभौ धर्मार्थकामानां चतुर्थ इव पार्थिवः ॥ १-२१४-४ ॥

'It seemed as if the three pursuits—virtue, pleasure, and profit—had become personified on earth, and among them, the king shone as a fourth.' ॥ 1-214-4 ॥

teSAM samabhibhaktAnAM kaSitau dehavatAma iva babhau dharmArthakAmAnAM caturtha iva pArthivaH ॥ 1-214-4 ॥

अध्येतारं परं वेदाः परयॊक्तारं महाध्वराः रक्षितारं शुभं वर्णा लेभिरे तं जनाधिपम ॥ १-२१४-५ ॥

'The subjects, having obtained Yudhishthira as their king, found in him a monarch devoted to the study of the Vedas, a performer of great sacrifices, and a protector of all virtuous people.' ॥ 1-214-5 ॥

adhyetAraM paraM vedAH parayòktAraM mahAdhvarAH rakSitAraM zubhaM varNA lebhire taM janAdhipama ॥ 1-214-5 ॥
