[वै] धृष्टद्युम्नस तु पाञ्चाल्यः पृष्ठतः कुरुनन्दनौ अन्वगच्छत तदा यान्तौ भार्गवस्य निवेशनम ।। १-१८४-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Vaiśampāyana said, "As the Kuru princes, Bhīma and Arjuna, made their way to the potter's abode, Dhristdiyum, the prince of the Panchals, followed them discreetly.' ।। 1-184-1 ।।

english translation

[vai] dhRSTadyumnasa tu pAJcAlyaH pRSThataH kurunandanau anvagacchata tadA yAntau bhArgavasya nivezanama || 1-184-1 ||

hk transliteration

सॊ ऽजञायमानः पुरुषान अवधाय समन्ततः सवयम आरान निविष्टॊ ऽभूद भार्गवस्य निवेशने ।। १-१८४-२ ।।

sanskrit

'Dismissing all his attendants, he hid in a part of the potter's house, remaining unnoticed by the Pandavas.' ।। 1-184-2 ।।

english translation

sò 'jaJAyamAnaH puruSAna avadhAya samantataH savayama ArAna niviSTò 'bhUda bhArgavasya nivezane || 1-184-2 ||

साये ऽथ भीमस तु रिपुप्रमाथी; जिष्णुर यमौ चापि महानुभावौ भैक्षं चरित्वा तु युधिष्ठिराय; निवेदयां चक्रुर अदीनसत्त्वाः ।। १-१८४-३ ।।

sanskrit

'Then Bhīma, the subduer of all foes, along with Jishnu (Arjuna) and the illustrious twins (Nakula and Sahadeva), returned from their alms-gathering round in the evening. With cheerful spirits, they offered everything they had collected to Yudhishthira.' ।। 1-184-3 ।।

english translation

sAye 'tha bhImasa tu ripupramAthI; jiSNura yamau cApi mahAnubhAvau bhaikSaM caritvA tu yudhiSThirAya; nivedayAM cakrura adInasattvAH || 1-184-3 ||

ततस तु कुन्ती दरुपदात्मजां; ताम उवाच काले वचनं वदान्या अतॊ ऽगरम आदाय कुरुष्व भद्रे; बलिं च विप्राय च देहि भिक्षाम ।। १-१८४-४ ।।

'Then the kind-hearted Kuntī addressed the daughter of Drupada, saying, "O amiable one, take a portion from this and first offer it to the gods. And then to the Brahmanas.' ।। 1-184-4 ।।

english translation

tatasa tu kuntI darupadAtmajAM; tAma uvAca kAle vacanaM vadAnyA atò 'garama AdAya kuruSva bhadre; baliM ca viprAya ca dehi bhikSAma || 1-184-4 ||

hk transliteration

ये चान्नम इच्छन्ति ददस्व तेभ्यः; परिश्रिता ये परितॊ मनुष्याः ततश च शेषं परविभज्य शीघ्रम; अर्धं चतुर्णां मम चात्मनश च ।। १-१८४-५ ।।

sanskrit

'Then Kuntī, kind-hearted and wise, addressed Draupadī, saying, "O amiable one, feed those who desire to eat and give food to our guests. Divide the rest into two halves."' ।। 1-184-5 ।।

english translation

ye cAnnama icchanti dadasva tebhyaH; parizritA ye paritò manuSyAH tataza ca zeSaM paravibhajya zIghrama; ardhaM caturNAM mama cAtmanaza ca || 1-184-5 ||
