[ग] ततॊ दृष्ट्वाश्रमपदं रहितं तैः सुतैर मुनिः निर्जगाम सुदुःखार्तः पुनर एवाश्रमात ततः ।। १-१६७-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Continuing, the Gandharva said, "Seeing his hermitage empty of his children, the sage, tormented by great sorrow, departed from it once more."' ।। 1-167-1 ।।

english translation

[ga] tatò dRSTvAzramapadaM rahitaM taiH sutaira muniH nirjagAma suduHkhArtaH punara evAzramAta tataH || 1-167-1 ||

hk transliteration

सॊ ऽपश्यत सरितं पूर्णां परावृट्काले नवाम्भसा वृक्षान बहुविधान पार्थ वहन्तीं तीरजान बहून ।। १-१६७-२ ।।

sanskrit

'As he wandered, O Partha, he came across a river swollen with the waters of the rainy season, carrying away countless trees and plants that had grown along its banks.' ।। 1-167-2 ।।

english translation

sò 'pazyata saritaM pUrNAM parAvRTkAle navAmbhasA vRkSAna bahuvidhAna pArtha vahantIM tIrajAna bahUna || 1-167-2 ||

hk transliteration

अथ चिन्तां समापेदे पुनः पौरवनन्दन अम्भस्य अस्या निमज्जेयम इति दुःखसमन्वितः ।। १-१६७-३ ।।

sanskrit

'Observing this, O descendant of Kuru, the anguished sage, fearing he would surely drown in the river's waters, securely bound himself with numerous ropes and, overwhelmed by grief, cast himself into the powerful current of the stream.' ।। 1-167-3 ।।

english translation

atha cintAM samApede punaH pauravanandana ambhasya asyA nimajjeyama iti duHkhasamanvitaH || 1-167-3 ||

hk transliteration

ततः पाशैस तदात्मानं गाढं बद्ध्वा महामुनिः तस्या जले महानद्या निममज्ज सुदुःखितः ।। १-१६७-४ ।।

sanskrit

'Then, tightly binding himself with ropes, the great sage plunged deeply into the waters of that mighty river, consumed by great sorrow.' ।। 1-167-4 ।।

english translation

tataH pAzaisa tadAtmAnaM gADhaM baddhvA mahAmuniH tasyA jale mahAnadyA nimamajja suduHkhitaH || 1-167-4 ||

hk transliteration

अथ छित्त्वा नदी पाशांस तस्यारि बलमर्दन समस्थं तम ऋषिं कृत्वा विपाशं समवासृजत ।। १-१६७-५ ।।

sanskrit

'However, O vanquisher of foes, the stream soon severed those cords and threw the sage ashore. The sage then stood up on the bank, liberated from the bonds he had tied himself with.' ।। 1-167-5 ।।

english translation

atha chittvA nadI pAzAMsa tasyAri balamardana samasthaM tama RSiM kRtvA vipAzaM samavAsRjata || 1-167-5 ||
