तं राजा सह तैश चॊरैर अन्वशाद वध्यताम इति स वध्य घातैर अज्ञातः शूले परॊतॊ महातपाः ।। १-१०१-११ ।।

sanskrit

'The king, mistakenly associating him with the thieves, decreed that the sage be executed alongside them. Consequently, the officers, in their ignorance, executed the order by impaling the esteemed Rishi.' ।। 1-101-11 ।।

english translation

taM rAjA saha taiza còraira anvazAda vadhyatAma iti sa vadhya ghAtaira ajJAtaH zUle paròtò mahAtapAH || 1-101-11 ||

hk transliteration

ततस ते शूलम आरॊप्य तं मुनिं रक्षिणस तदा परतिजग्मुर महीपालं धनान्य आदाय तान्य अथ ।। १-१०१-१२ ।।

sanskrit

'Upon impaling the sage along with the thieves, the guards then went to the king and presented to him the wealth they had seized.' ।। 1-101-12 ।।

english translation

tatasa te zUlama Aròpya taM muniM rakSiNasa tadA paratijagmura mahIpAlaM dhanAnya AdAya tAnya atha || 1-101-12 ||

hk transliteration

शूलस्थः स तु धर्मात्मा कालेन महता ततः निराहारॊ ऽपि विप्रर्षिर मरणं नाभ्युपागमत धारयाम आस च पराणान ऋषींश च समुपानयत ।। १-१०१-१३ ।।

sanskrit

'However, the righteous sage, though impaled and deprived of sustenance, persisted in that state for a considerable time without succumbing to death. By his ascetic power, he not only sustained his own life but also summoned other sages to the scene.' ।। 1-101-13 ।।

english translation

zUlasthaH sa tu dharmAtmA kAlena mahatA tataH nirAhArò 'pi viprarSira maraNaM nAbhyupAgamata dhArayAma Asa ca parANAna RSIMza ca samupAnayata || 1-101-13 ||

hk transliteration

शूलाग्रे तप्यमानेन तपस तेन महात्मना संतापं परमं जग्मुर मुनयॊ ऽथ परंतप ।। १-१०१-१४ ।।

sanskrit

'And they came there in the night in the forms of birds, and beholding him engaged in ascetic meditation though fixed on that stake, became plunged into grief.' ।। 1-101-14 ।।

english translation

zUlAgre tapyamAnena tapasa tena mahAtmanA saMtApaM paramaM jagmura munayò 'tha paraMtapa || 1-101-14 ||

hk transliteration

ते रात्रौ शकुना भूत्वा संन्यवर्तन्त सर्वतः दर्शयन्तॊ यथाशक्ति तम अपृच्छन दविजॊत्तमम शरॊतुम इच्छामहे बरह्मन किं पापं कृतवान असि ।। १-१०१-१५ ।।

sanskrit

'Transforming into birds, they returned during the night and revealed their identities to the sage. Addressing him respectfully, they inquired, "O Brahmana, we wish to understand what sin you have committed, leading you to endure the torment of impalement."' ।। 1-101-15 ।।

english translation

te rAtrau zakunA bhUtvA saMnyavartanta sarvataH darzayantò yathAzakti tama apRcchana davijòttamama zaròtuma icchAmahe barahmana kiM pApaM kRtavAna asi || 1-101-15 ||
