ततः स मुनिशार्दूलस तान उवाच तपॊधनान दॊषतः कं गमिष्यामि न हि मे ऽनयॊ ऽपराध्यति ।। १-१०१-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'Vaisampayana narrated, "When questioned thus, the foremost among Munis responded to those sages of immense ascetic merit, 'Upon whom shall I cast blame for this? Indeed, no one other than myself has transgressed against me!'' ।। 1-101-16 ।।

english translation

tataH sa munizArdUlasa tAna uvAca tapòdhanAna dòSataH kaM gamiSyAmi na hi me 'nayò 'parAdhyati || 1-101-16 ||

'Subsequently, O monarch, the officials of justice, upon witnessing the sage's survival, reported it to the king. Upon hearing their words, the king consulted with his advisors and then proceeded to the site to pacify the Rishi who remained fixed on the stake.' ।। 1-101-17 ।।

'Descending from the stake, he removed the same from the spot, unable to extract it, he cut it off at the base.' ।। 1-101-20 ।।
