स तथान्तर गतेनैव शूलेन वयचरन मुनिः स तेन तपसा लॊकान विजिग्ये दुर्लभान परैः अणी माण्डव्य इति च ततॊ लॊकेषु कथ्यते ॥ १-१०१-२१ ॥
'The sage, with a fragment of the stake embedded in his body, continued his ascetic practices while traversing various realms, which remained beyond reach for others. This unique condition earned him the name "Ani-Mandavya" (Mandavya with the stake within) in the three worlds.' ॥ 1-101-21 ॥

स गत्वा सदनं विप्रॊ धर्मस्य परमार्थवित आसनस्थं ततॊ धर्मं दृष्ट्वॊपालभत परभुः ॥ १-१०१-२२ ॥
'The Brahmin, who was deeply knowledgeable about the ultimate principles of righteousness, proceeded to the abode of Dharma (the god of justice). There, he saw Dharma seated and approached the lord.' ॥ 1-101-22 ॥

किं नु तद दुष्कृतं कर्म मया कृतम अजानता यस्येयं फलनिर्वृत्तिर ईदृश्य आसादिता मया शीघ्रम आचक्ष्व मे तत्त्वं पश्य मे तपसॊ बलम ॥ १-१०१-२३ ॥
'What wrongful deed did I unknowingly commit, the consequence of which I'm experiencing in this manner? Please swiftly enlighten me about the truth of my penance and reveal to me the strength of my austerity.' ॥ 1-101-23 ॥

[धर्म] पतंगकानां पुच्छेषु तवयेषीका परवेशिता कर्मणस तस्य ते पराप्तं फलम एतत तपॊधन ॥ १-१०१-२४ ॥
'Dharma, when questioned, responded, "O sage of immense penance, in your childhood, you innocently pierced an insect with a blade of grass. The pain you are experiencing now is the result of that act. Just as a small act of charity can yield immense religious merit, similarly, even a minor sin can lead to significant suffering."' ॥ 1-101-24 ॥

[आण] अल्पे ऽपराधे विपुलॊ मम दण्डस तवया कृतः शूद्रयॊनाव अतॊ धर्ममानुषः संभविष्यसि ॥ १-१०१-२५ ॥
'On hearing this, Ani-Mandavya asked, for a minor offense, a severe punishment has been meted out to me by you. Therefore, O Dharmaraja, in your next human birth, you shall be born in a Shudra family.' ॥ 1-101-25 ॥
