मर्यादां सथापयाम्य अद्य लॊके धर्मफलॊदयाम आचतुर्दशमाद वर्षान न भविष्यति पातकम परेण कुर्वताम एवं दॊष एव भविष्यति ।। १-१०१-२६ ।।

sanskrit

'I hereby establish a principle in the world regarding the fruition of acts of dharma (righteousness). From the age of fourteen years onward, no sin will be attributed to actions done. Only actions performed thereafter will be considered for their faults.' ।। 1-101-26 ।।

english translation

maryAdAM sathApayAmya adya lòke dharmaphalòdayAma AcaturdazamAda varSAna na bhaviSyati pAtakama pareNa kurvatAma evaM dòSa eva bhaviSyati || 1-101-26 ||

hk transliteration

[व] एतेन तव अपराधेन शापात तस्य महात्मनः धर्मॊ विदुर रूपेण शूद्रयॊनाव अजायत ।। १-१०१-२७ ।।

sanskrit

'Vaisampayana continued, 'Cursed for this fault by that illustrious Rishi, the god of justice had his birth as Vidura in the Sudra order.' ।। 1-101-27 ।।

english translation

[va] etena tava aparAdhena zApAta tasya mahAtmanaH dharmò vidura rUpeNa zUdrayònAva ajAyata || 1-101-27 ||

hk transliteration

धर्मे चार्थे च कुशलॊ लॊभक्रॊधविवर्जितः दीर्घदर्शी शम परः कुरूणां च हिते रतः ।। १-१०१-२८ ।।

sanskrit

'And Vidura was well-versed in the doctrines of morality and also politics and worldly profit. And he was entirely free from covetousness and wrath. Possessed of great foresight and undisturbed tranquillity of mind, Vidura was ever devoted to the welfare of the Kurus.' ।। 1-101-28 ।।
