अथ ताम अष्टमे पुत्रे जाते परहसिताम इव उवाच राजा दुःखार्तः परीप्सन पुत्रम आत्मनः ।। १-९२-४६ ।।

'However, upon the birth of the eighth child, as his wife prepared to cast the child into the river with a smile, the sorrowful king, eager to save his child, spoke to her.' ।। 1-92-46 ।।

atha tAma aSTame putre jAte parahasitAma iva uvAca rAjA duHkhArtaH parIpsana putrama AtmanaH || 1-92-46 ||

मा वधीः कासि कस्यासि किं हिंससि सुतान इति पुत्रघ्नि सुमहत पापं मा परापस तिष्ठ गर्हिते ।। १-९२-४७ ।।

'Do not harm the child! Who are you, and from whom do you come? Why do you take the lives of your own offspring? O destroyer of your sons, the burden of your sins is immense!' ।। 1-92-47 ।।

mA vadhIH kAsi kasyAsi kiM hiMsasi sutAna iti putraghni sumahata pApaM mA parApasa tiSTha garhite || 1-92-47 ||

'His wife responded, "O one who yearns for children, you now stand foremost among those blessed with progeny. Fear not, for I will not harm this child. Yet, in accordance with the pact between us, my time with you has now concluded."' ।। 1-92-48 ।।
