[षिबि] पृच्छामि तवां शिबिर औशीनरॊ ऽहं; ममापि लॊका यदि सन्तीह तात यद्य अन्तरिक्षे यदि वा दिवि शरिताः; कषेत्रज्ञं तवां तस्य धर्मस्य मन्ये ॥ १-८८-६ ॥
'Sivi, the son of Usinara, addressed the king, saying, "O father, I am known as Sivi. Are there any realms in the firmament or in heaven where I may enjoy the fruits of my religious merit? You possess knowledge of all such regions."' ॥ 1-88-6 ॥

[य] न तवं वाचा हृदयेनापि विद्वन; परीप्समानान नावमंस्था नरेन्द्र तेनानन्ता दिवि लॊकाः शरितास ते; विद्युद्रूपाः सवनवन्तॊ महान्तः ॥ १-८८-७ ॥
'Yayati replied, "O Sivi, you have never, either by word or in thought, disregarded the righteous and the virtuous. Countless worlds await you in heaven, all radiant like lightning."' ॥ 1-88-7 ॥

[ष] तांस तवं लॊकान परतिपद्यस्व राजन; मया दत्तान यदि नेष्टः करयस ते न चाहं तान परतिपत्स्येह दत्त्वा; यत्र गत्वा तवम उपास्से ह लॊकान ॥ १-८८-८ ॥
'Sivi continued, "If you consider it inappropriate to acquire them through purchase, I offer them to you freely. Accept them all, O king! As for me, I shall never seek those realms where the wise remain undisturbed."' ॥ 1-88-8 ॥

[य] यथा तवम इन्द्र परतिमप्रभावस; ते चाप्य अनन्ता नरदेव लॊकाः तथाद्य लॊके न रमे ऽनयदत्ते; तस्माच छिबे नाभिनन्दामि दायम ॥ १-८८-९ ॥
'Yayati replied, "O Sivi, you have indeed acquired infinite worlds, endowed with the prowess of Indra. However, I do not wish to indulge in realms bestowed upon me by others. Hence, I decline your gift."' ॥ 1-88-9 ॥

[आ] न चेद एकैकशॊ राजँल लॊकान नः परतिनन्दसि सर्वे परदाय भवते गन्तारॊ नरकं वयम ॥ १-८८-१० ॥
'Ashtaka then said, 'O king, each of us has expressed his desire to offer you the worlds acquired through our religious merits. Since you do not accept them, we shall leave them for you and descend into the Earth-hell.'' ॥ 1-88-10 ॥
