स संभावय नागेन्द्र मयि सर्वं महामते न ते मयि मनॊ जातु मिथ्या भवितुम अर्हति ॥ १-४९-२१ ॥
'O noble one, O king of serpents, have faith in everything I express. Trust me, for my determination can never go unfulfilled.' ॥ 1-49-21 ॥
english translation
[व] आस्तीक परिघूर्णामि हृदयं मे विदीर्यते दिशश च न परजानामि बरह्मदण्डनिपीडितः ॥ १-४९-२२ ॥
'And Vasuki then said, 'O Astika, my head swims, and my heart breaks. I cannot discern the points of the earth, as I am afflicted with a mother's curse.' ॥ 1-49-22 ॥
english translation
[आ] न संतापस तवया कार्यः कथं चित पन्नगॊत्तम दीप्तदाग्नेः समुत्पन्नं नाशयिष्यामि ते भयम ॥ १-४९-२३ ॥
'Astika said, "O best of snakes, there is no need for you to grieve any longer. I will alleviate your fear arising from the blazing fire."' ॥ 1-49-23 ॥
english translation
बरह्मदण्डं महाघॊरं कालाग्निसमतेजसम नाशयिष्यामि मात्रत्वं भयं कार्षीः कथं चन ॥ १-४९-२४ ॥
'I will extinguish this dreadful punishment, as potent as the fire at the end of the Yuga. Do not harbor fear any longer.' ॥ 1-49-24 ॥

[स] ततः स वासुकेर घॊरम अपनीय मनॊ जवरम आधाय चात्मनॊ ऽङगेषु जगाम तवरितॊ भृशम ॥ १-४९-२५ ॥
'Sauti continued, 'Astika, the best of Brahmanas, alleviating the profound fear in Vasuki's heart and almost bearing it upon himself, hurried towards Janamejaya's sacrifice, adorned with every virtue, to bring relief to the king of serpents.' ॥ 1-49-25 ॥
