[स] तत आहूय पुत्रं सवं जरत्कारुर भुजंगमा वासुकेर नागराजस्य वचनाद इदम अब्रवीत ॥ १-४९-१ ॥
'Sauti said, 'Then the snake-dame Jaratkaru, calling her son, told him the following words according to the directions of Vasuki.' ॥ 1-49-1 ॥
english translation
[sa] tata AhUya putraM savaM jaratkArura bhujaMgamA vAsukera nAgarAjasya vacanAda idama abravIta ॥ 1-49-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअहं तव पितुः पुत्रभ्रात्रा दत्ता निमित्ततः कालः स चायं संप्राप्तस तत कुरुष्व यथातथम ॥ १-४९-२ ॥
'My son, the moment has arrived to achieve the purpose for which I was entrusted to your father by my brother. Now, fulfill the task at hand.' ॥ 1-49-2 ॥
english translation
ahaM tava pituH putrabhrAtrA dattA nimittataH kAlaH sa cAyaM saMprAptasa tata kuruSva yathAtathama ॥ 1-49-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscript[आस्तीक] किंनिमित्तं मम पितुर दत्ता तवं मातुलेन मे तन ममाचक्ष्व तत्त्वेन शरुत्वा कर्तास्मि तत तथा ॥ १-४९-३ ॥
'Astika inquired, "O mother, for what reason were you given to my father by my uncle? Share the complete truth with me so that, upon understanding, I may fulfill what is rightful."' ॥ 1-49-3 ॥

[AstIka] kiMnimittaM mama pitura dattA tavaM mAtulena me tana mamAcakSva tattvena zarutvA kartAsmi tata tathA ॥ 1-49-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscript[स] तत आचष्ट सा तस्मै बान्धवानां हितैषिणी भगिनी नागराजस्य जरत्कारुर अविक्लवा ॥ १-४९-४ ॥
'Then Jaratkaru, the sister of the king of the snakes, herself unmoved by the general distress, and even desirous of the welfare of her relatives, said unto him.' ॥ 1-49-4 ॥
english translation
[sa] tata AcaSTa sA tasmai bAndhavAnAM hitaiSiNI bhaginI nAgarAjasya jaratkArura aviklavA ॥ 1-49-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभुजगानाम अशेषाणां माता कद्रूर इति शरुतिः तया शप्ता रुषितया सुता यस्मान निबॊध तत ॥ १-४९-५ ॥
'O son, it is said that Kadru is the mother of all snakes. Understand why she cursed her sons in anger.' ॥ 1-49-5 ॥

bhujagAnAma azeSANAM mAtA kadrUra iti zarutiH tayA zaptA ruSitayA sutA yasmAna nibòdha tata ॥ 1-49-5 ॥
