एतच छरुत्वा तु राजा स पराग दीक्षा कालम अब्रवीत कषत्तारं नेह मे कश चिद अज्ञातः परविशेद इति ।। १-४७-१६ ।।

'Upon hearing this, the king, with a sense of foreboding, addressed the gathering at the scheduled time for the auspicious consecration, expressing, "I sense an unknown threat looming over me here."' ।। 1-47-16 ।।

english translation

etaca charutvA tu rAjA sa parAga dIkSA kAlama abravIta kaSattAraM neha me kaza cida ajJAtaH paravizeda iti || 1-47-16 ||

ततः कर्म परववृते सर्पसत्रे विधानतः पर्यक्रामंश च विधिवत सवे सवे कर्मणि याजकाः ।। १-४७-१७ ।।

'Sauti said, 'The snake sacrifice then commenced according to due form. And the sacrificial priests, competent in their respective duties according to the ordinance, clad in black garments and their eyes red from contact with smoke, poured clarified butter into the blazing fire, uttering the appropriate mantras.' ।। 1-47-17 ।।

tataH karma paravavRte sarpasatre vidhAnataH paryakrAmaMza ca vidhivata save save karmaNi yAjakAH || 1-47-17 ||

'And causing the hearts of all the snakes to tremble with fear, they poured clarified butter into the mouth of Agni uttering the names of the snakes. And the snakes thereupon began to fall into the blazing fire, benumbed and piteously calling upon one another.' ।। 1-47-18 ।।

paridhAya kRSNa vAsAMsi dhUmasaMrakta lòcanAH juhuvura mantravaca caiva samiddhaM jAtavedasama || 1-47-18 ||
