ततस तवं पुरुषश्रेष्ठ धर्मेण परतिपेदिवान इदं वर्षसहस्राय राज्यं कुरु कुलागतम बाल एवाभिजातॊ ऽसि सर्वभूतानुपालकः ।। १-४५-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'After him, O foremost among men, you have held this ancestral kingdom of the Kurus for the past thousand years. You were enthroned as a child, and thus, you have been safeguarding all living beings.' ।। 1-45-16 ।।

tatasa tavaM puruSazreSTha dharmeNa paratipedivAna idaM varSasahasrAya rAjyaM kuru kulAgatama bAla evAbhijAtò 'si sarvabhUtAnupAlakaH || 1-45-16 ||

'Janamejaya inquired, 'In our lineage, every king has strived for the welfare of his subjects and earned their love. Examine particularly the deeds of my ancestors, who were always involved in great accomplishments. Tell me in detail how my virtuous father, endowed with numerous qualities, met his end.'' ।। 1-45-17 ।।

'Sauti continued, 'Thus directed by the monarch, those councilors, ever solicitous of the good of the king, told him everything exactly as it had occurred.'' ।। 1-45-19 ।।

'The councilors spoke to the king, "Your father, the protector of the entire earth and a paragon of virtue, indulged in the pursuits of hunting, similar to the mighty-armed Pandu, the unparalleled warrior. He entrusted all matters of state to us, ranging from the trivial to the most significant."' ।। 1-45-20 ।।
