पितरस ते ऽवलम्बन्ते गर्ते दीना अधॊमुखाः साधु दारान कुरुष्वेति परजायस्वेति चाभिभॊ कुलतन्तुर हि नः शिष्टस तवम एवैकस तपॊधन ॥ १-४१-२१ ॥
'Your forefathers, in distress, dangle with faces turned downward in a pit. O virtuous one, consider taking a wife and bringing forth offspring for the welfare of our lineage.' ॥ 1-41-21 ॥
english translation
यत तु पश्यसि नॊ बरह्मन वीरणस्तम्बम आश्रितान एषॊ ऽसमाकं कुलस्तम्ब आसीत सवकुलवर्धनः ॥ १-४१-२२ ॥
'O possessor of ascetic wealth, you, O amiable one, are the last remaining thread in the lineage of your ancestors.' ॥ 1-41-22 ॥
english translation
यानि पश्यसि वै बरह्मन मूलानीहास्य वीरुधः एते नस्तन्तवस तात कालेन परिभक्षिताः ॥ १-४१-२३ ॥
'O Brahmana, the virana root cord you witness, to which we are clinging, symbolizes the continuity of our multiplied lineage. Those threads of the virana root cord you perceive as gnawed away represent us, consumed by the inexorable passage of Time.' ॥ 1-41-23 ॥
english translation
यत तव एतत पश्यसि बरह्मन मूलम अस्यार्धभक्षितम तत्र लम्बामहे सर्वे सॊ ऽपय एकस तप आस्थितः ॥ १-४१-२४ ॥
'The root you see, half-eaten, is the very support by which we are suspended in this pit, and it belongs to the one who has embraced asceticism alone.' ॥ 1-41-24 ॥

यम आखुं पश्यसि बरह्मन काल एष महाबलः स तं तपॊ रतं मन्दं शनैः कषपयते तुदन जरत्कारुं तपॊ लुब्धं मन्दात्मानम अचेतसम ॥ १-४१-२५ ॥
'The rat you observe represents Time, possessing boundless strength. This formidable force is gradually enfeebling Jaratkaru, who, enticed by the potential merits of ascetic penances, lacks prudence and fortitude.' ॥ 1-41-25 ॥
