न हि शक्नॊति संयन्तुं पुत्रं कॊपसमन्वितम ततॊ ऽहं परेषितस तेन तव राजन हितार्थिना ॥ १-३८-२१ ॥
'Unable to calm his son consumed by anger, I have been sent to you, O king, for your well-being.' ॥ 1-38-21 ॥
english translation
इति शरुत्वा वचॊ घॊरं स राजा कुरुनन्दनः पर्यतप्यत तत पापं कृत्वा राजा महातपाः ॥ १-३८-२२ ॥
'And that king of the Kuru race, himself engaged in ascetic practices, having heard these cruel words and recollecting his sinful act, became exceedingly sorry.' ॥ 1-38-22 ॥
english translation
तं च मौन वरतधरं शरुत्वा मुनिवरं तदा भूय एवाभवद राजा शॊकसंतप्त मानसः ॥ १-३८-२३ ॥
'And the king, learning that foremost of Rishis in the forest had been observing the vow of silence, was doubly afflicted with sorrow and seeing the kindness of the Rishi Samika, and considering his sinful act towards him, the king became very repentant.' ॥ 1-38-23 ॥
english translation
अनुक्रॊशात्मतां तस्य शमीकस्यावधार्य तु पर्यतप्यत भूयॊ ऽपि कृत्वा तत किल्बिषं मुनेः ॥ १-३८-२४ ॥
'Understanding the inner turmoil of Samika due to his outburst, the king, feeling remorse, continued to repent, even more, purifying himself from the sage's transgression.' ॥ 1-38-24 ॥
english translation
न हि मृत्युं तथा राजा शरुत्वा वै सॊ ऽनवतप्यत अशॊचद अमरप्रख्यॊ यथा कृत्वेह कर्म तत ॥ १-३८-२५ ॥
And the king looking like a very good, did not grieve so much for hearing of his death as for having done that act to the Rishi.' ॥ 1-38-25 ॥
