ततस तस्य गिरेः शृङ्गम आस्थाय स खगॊत्तमः भक्षयाम आस गरुडस ताव उभौ गजकच्छपौ ।। १-१६-२६ ।।

sanskrit

'Then that best of birds, Garuda, perching on the summit of that mountain, ate both the elephant and the tortoise, rose on his wings with great speed from the top of the mountain.' ।। 1-26-26 ।।

english translation

tatasa tasya gireH zRGgama AsthAya sa khagòttamaH bhakSayAma Asa garuDasa tAva ubhau gajakacchapau || 1-16-26 ||

'And various omens began to appear among the gods foreboding fear. Indra's favorite thunderbolt blazed up in fright.' ।। 1-26-27 ।।

sanskrit

'Having forsaken the beloved seat of Indra, ablaze and filled with unbearable pain, the divine bird descended like a flame, illuminating the heavens and the celestial spaces.' ।। 1-26-28 ।।

indrasya varjaM dayitaM parajajvAla vayathAnvitama sadhUmA cApatata sArcira divòlkA nabhasaza cayutA || 1-16-28 ||

तथा वसूनां रुद्राणाम आदित्यानां च सर्वशः साध्यानां मरुतां चैव ये चान्ये देवता गणाः सवं सवं परहरणं तेषां परस्परम उपाद्रवत ।। १-१६-२९ ।।

'And the weapons of the Vasus, the Rudras, the Adityas, the Sabhyas, the Maruts, and other gods, began to spend their force against one another.' ।। 1-26-29 ।।

tathA vasUnAM rudrANAma AdityAnAM ca sarvazaH sAdhyAnAM marutAM caiva ye cAnye devatA gaNAH savaM savaM paraharaNaM teSAM parasparama upAdravata || 1-16-29 ||

अभूतपूर्वं संग्रामे तदा देवासुरे ऽपि च ववुर वाताः सनिर्घाताः पेतुर उल्काः समन्ततः ।। १-१६-३० ।।

sanskrit

'Such a thing had never happened even during the war between the gods and the Asuras. And the winds blew accompanied with thunder, and meteors fell by thousands.' ।। 1-26-30 ।।

abhUtapUrvaM saMgrAme tadA devAsure 'pi ca vavura vAtAH sanirghAtAH petura ulkAH samantataH || 1-16-30 ||
