ततस तस्य गिरेः शृङ्गम आस्थाय स खगॊत्तमः भक्षयाम आस गरुडस ताव उभौ गजकच्छपौ ॥ १-१६-२६ ॥
'Then that best of birds, Garuda, perching on the summit of that mountain, ate both the elephant and the tortoise, rose on his wings with great speed from the top of the mountain.' ॥ 1-26-26 ॥

ततः पर्वतकूटाग्राद उत्पपात मनॊजवः परावर्तन्ताथ देवानाम उत्पाता भयवेदिनः ॥ १-१६-२७ ॥
'And various omens began to appear among the gods foreboding fear. Indra's favorite thunderbolt blazed up in fright.' ॥ 1-26-27 ॥

इन्द्रस्य वर्जं दयितं परजज्वाल वयथान्वितम सधूमा चापतत सार्चिर दिवॊल्का नभसश चयुता ॥ १-१६-२८ ॥
'Having forsaken the beloved seat of Indra, ablaze and filled with unbearable pain, the divine bird descended like a flame, illuminating the heavens and the celestial spaces.' ॥ 1-26-28 ॥

तथा वसूनां रुद्राणाम आदित्यानां च सर्वशः साध्यानां मरुतां चैव ये चान्ये देवता गणाः सवं सवं परहरणं तेषां परस्परम उपाद्रवत ॥ १-१६-२९ ॥
'And the weapons of the Vasus, the Rudras, the Adityas, the Sabhyas, the Maruts, and other gods, began to spend their force against one another.' ॥ 1-26-29 ॥

अभूतपूर्वं संग्रामे तदा देवासुरे ऽपि च ववुर वाताः सनिर्घाताः पेतुर उल्काः समन्ततः ॥ १-१६-३० ॥
'Such a thing had never happened even during the war between the gods and the Asuras. And the winds blew accompanied with thunder, and meteors fell by thousands.' ॥ 1-26-30 ॥
