[स] सपृष्टमात्रा तु पद्भ्यां स गरुडेन बलीयसा अभज्यत तरॊः शाखा भग्नां चैनाम अधारयत ।। १-१६-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Sauti said, 'At the very touch by Garuda of great might with his feet, the branch of the tree broke as it was caught by Garuda.' ।। 1-26-1 ।।

english translation

[sa] sapRSTamAtrA tu padbhyAM sa garuDena balIyasA abhajyata taròH zAkhA bhagnAM cainAma adhArayata || 1-16-1 ||

hk transliteration

तां भग्नां स महाशाखां समयन समवलॊकयन अथात्र लम्बतॊ ऽपश्यद वालखिल्यान अधॊमुखान ।। १-१६-२ ।।

sanskrit

'Casting his eyes around in wonder he saw Valakhilya Rishis hanging therefrom with heads downwards and engaged in ascetic penances.' ।। 1-26-2 ।।

english translation

tAM bhagnAM sa mahAzAkhAM samayana samavalòkayana athAtra lambatò 'pazyada vAlakhilyAna adhòmukhAna || 1-16-2 ||

hk transliteration

स तद्विनाशसंत्रासाद अनुपत्य खगाधिपः शाखाम आस्येन जग्राह तेषाम एवान्ववेक्षया शनैः पर्यपतत पक्षी पर्वतान परविशातयन ।। १-१६-३ ।।

sanskrit

'Reflecting that if that bough fell, the Rishis would be slain, the mighty one held the elephant and the tortoise still more firmly with his claws. And from fear of slaying the Rishis and desire of saving them, held that bough in his beaks, and rose on his wings.' ।। 1-26-3 ।।

english translation

sa tadvinAzasaMtrAsAda anupatya khagAdhipaH zAkhAma Asyena jagrAha teSAma evAnvavekSayA zanaiH paryapatata pakSI parvatAna paravizAtayana || 1-16-3 ||

hk transliteration

एवं सॊ ऽभयपतद देशान बहून सगज कच्छपः दयार्थं वालखिल्यानां न च सथानम अविन्दत ।। १-१६-४ ।।

sanskrit

'And shaking the mountains by his wings, Garuda leisurely coursed through the skies. And as he soared with the elephant and the tortoise (in his claws), he beheld various regions underneath. Desiring as he did to save the Valakhilyas, he saw not a spot whereon to sit.' ।। 1-26-4 ।।

english translation

evaM sò 'bhayapatada dezAna bahUna sagaja kacchapaH dayArthaM vAlakhilyAnAM na ca sathAnama avindata || 1-16-4 ||

hk transliteration

स गत्वा पर्वतश्रेष्ठं गन्धमादनम अव्ययम ददर्श कश्यपं तत्र पितरं तपसि सथितम ।। १-१६-५ ।।

sanskrit

'At last, he went to that foremost of mountains called Gandhamadana. There he saw his father Kasyapa engaged in ascetic devotions.' ।। 1-26-5 ।।

english translation

sa gatvA parvatazreSThaM gandhamAdanama avyayama dadarza kazyapaM tatra pitaraM tapasi sathitama || 1-16-5 ||
