निरभ्रम अपि चाकाशं परजगर्ज महास्वनम देवानाम अपि यॊ देवः सॊ ऽपय अवर्षद असृक तदा ॥ १-१६-३१ ॥
'And the sky, though cloudless, roared tremendously. And even he who was the god of gods shed showers of blood.' ॥ 1-26-31 ॥
english translation
मम्लुर माल्यानि देवानां शेमुस तेजांसि चैव हि उत्पातमेघा रौद्राश च ववर्षुः शॊणितं बहु रजांसि मुकुटान्य एषाम उत्थितानि वयधर्षयन ॥ १-१६-३२ ॥
'And the flowery garlands on the necks of the gods faded and their prowess suffered diminution. And terrible masses of clouds dropped thick showers of blood. And the dust raised by the winds darkened the splendor of the very coronets of the gods.' ॥ 1-26-32 ॥
english translation
ततस तराससमुद्विग्नः सह देवैः शतक्रतुः उत्पातान दारुणान पश्यन्न इत्य उवाच बृहस्पतिम ॥ १-१६-३३ ॥
'And He of a thousand sacrifices (Indra), with the other gods, perplexed with fear at the sight of those dark forebodings spoke unto Vrihaspati.' ॥ 1-26-33 ॥
english translation
किमर्थं भगवन घॊरा महॊत्पाताः समुत्थिताः न च शत्रुं परपश्यामि युधि यॊ नः परधर्षयेत ॥ १-१६-३४ ॥
'Brihaspati replied, "Why, O venerable one, have these abrupt natural upheavals occurred? I do not perceive any adversary intending to oppress us in warfare."' ॥ 1-26-34 ॥

[बृह] तवापराधाद देवेन्द्र परमादाच च शतक्रतॊ तपसा वालखिल्यानां भूतम उत्पन्नम अद्भुतम ॥ १-१६-३५ ॥
'Vrihaspati answered, 'O chief of the gods, O thou of a thousand sacrifices, it is from thy fault and carelessness, and owing also to the ascetic penance of the high-souled great Rishis, the Valakhilyas' ॥ 1-26-35 ॥
