एष हि जवलमानॊ ऽगनिर लेलिहानॊ महीरुहान दवेष्यं हि हृदि संतापं जनयत्य अशिवं मम ॥ १-२२४-१६ ॥
'Therefore, I must go. As for yourself, you are free to do as you please. This blazing fire that consumes the trees brings sorrow to my anxious heart and stirs up forebodings of evil within me.' ॥ 1-224-16 ॥

[वै] तस्माद देशाद अतिक्रान्ते जवलने जरिता ततः जगाम पुत्रकान एव तवरिता पुत्रगृद्धिनी ॥ १-२२४-१७ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, 'Meanwhile, after the fire had departed from the place where the Sarngakas lived, Jarita, deeply devoted to her children, quickly arrived there to see how they were.' ॥ 1-224-17 ॥

सा तान कुशलिनः सर्वान निर्मुक्ताञ जातवेदसः रॊरूयमाणा कृपणा सुतान दृष्टवती वने ॥ १-२२४-१८ ॥
'She found that all of them had escaped the fire unharmed. Seeing their mother, they began to weep, despite being safe and sound.' ॥ 1-224-18 ॥

अश्रद्धेयतमं तेषां दर्शनं सा पुनः पुनः एकैकशश च तान पुत्रान करॊशमानान्वपद्यत ॥ १-२२४-१९ ॥
' Overwhelmed with emotion, she too shed tears upon seeing them alive, and she embraced each of her tearful children one by one.' ॥ 1-224-19 ॥

ततॊ ऽभयगच्छत सहसा मन्दपालॊ ऽपि भारत अथ ते सर्वम एवैनं नाभ्यनन्दन्त वै सुताः ॥ १-२२४-२० ॥
'Just at that time, O Bharata, the Rishi Mandapala arrived there. But none of his sons expressed joy, upon beholding him.' ॥ 1-224-20 ॥
