लालप्यमानम एकैकं जरितां च पुनः पुनः नॊचुस ते वचनं किं चित तम ऋषिं साध्व असाधु वा ॥ १-२२४-२१ ॥
'The Rishi, however, spoke to each of them and Jarita repeatedly. Yet neither his sons nor Jarita responded with words, good or bad.' ॥ 1-224-21 ॥
english translation
[मन्दपाल] जयेष्ठः सुतस ते कतमः कतमस तदनन्तरः मध्यमः कतमः पुत्रः कनिष्ठः कतमश च ते ॥ १-२२४-२२ ॥
'Mandapala then said, "Who among these is your eldest, and who comes after him? Who is the third, and who is the youngest?' ॥ 1-224-22 ॥
english translation
एवं बरुवन्तं दुःखार्तं किं मां न परतिभाषसे कृतवान अस्मि हव्याशे नैव शान्तिम इतॊ लभे ॥ १-२२४-२३ ॥
'I speak to you with sorrow; why do you not respond to me? I indeed left you, but I was not content where I was.' ॥ 1-224-23 ॥
english translation
[जरिता] किं ते जयेष्ठे सुते कार्यं किम अनन्तरजेन वा किं च ते मध्यमे कार्यं किं कनिष्ठे तपस्विनि ॥ १-२२४-२४ ॥
'Jarita then said, "What concerns do you have with the eldest among them, and what about the next? And what about the third and the youngest?"' ॥ 1-224-24 ॥
english translation
यस तवं मां सर्वशॊ हीनाम उत्सृज्यासि गतः पुरा ताम एव लपितां गच्छ तरुणीं चारुहासिनीम ॥ १-२२४-२५ ॥
'Go now to that Lapita with sweet smiles and youthful vigor, to whom you went before, seeing me lacking in everything!' ॥ 1-224-25 ॥
