नाक्रामन्ति यदा शापा बाणा मुक्ताः शिलास्व इव नियमांस तदा परित्यज्य वयद्रवन्त दविजातयः ॥ १-२०२-१६ ॥
'When the Brahmanas saw that their curses produced not the slightest effect like shafts shot at stones they fled in all directions, forsaking their rites and vows.' ॥ 1-202-16 ॥
english translation
nAkrAmanti yadA zApA bANA muktAH zilAsva iva niyamAMsa tadA parityajya vayadravanta davijAtayaH ॥ 1-202-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपृथिव्यां ये तपःसिद्धा दान्ताः शम परायणाः तयॊर भयाद दुद्रुवुस ते वैनतेयाद इवॊरगाः ॥ १-२०२-१७ ॥
'The ascetic sages on Earth, who had attained perfection through their austerities, were deeply tranquil and absorbed in meditation on the deity. Yet, out of fear of the Asura brothers, they fled like serpents at the sight of Garuda, Vinata's son.' ॥ 1-202-17 ॥

pRthivyAM ye tapaHsiddhA dAntAH zama parAyaNAH tayòra bhayAda dudruvusa te vainateyAda ivòragAH ॥ 1-202-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमथितैर आश्रमैर भग्नैर विकीर्णकलशस्रुवैः शून्यम आसीज जगत सर्वं कालेनेव हतं यथा ॥ १-२०२-१८ ॥
'The sacred hermitages were trampled and shattered. The sacrificial jars and vessels, shattered, spilled their sacred contents upon the ground. The entire universe appeared deserted, as if all its beings had been struck down during a universal dissolution.' ॥ 1-202-18 ॥

mathitaira Azramaira bhagnaira vikIrNakalazasruvaiH zUnyama AsIja jagata sarvaM kAleneva hataM yathA ॥ 1-202-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptराजर्षिभिर अदृश्यद्भिर ऋषिभिश च महासुरौ उभौ विनिश्चयं कृत्वा विकुर्वाते वधैषिणौ ॥ १-२०२-१९ ॥
'And, O king, after the Rishis had all disappeared and made themselves invisible both the great Asuras, resolved upon their destruction, began to assume various forms.' ॥ 1-202-19 ॥

'Assuming the forms of frenzied elephants with temples shattered due to intoxication, the Asura pair sought out the Rishis who had taken refuge in caves, and sent them to the abode of Yama.' ॥ 1-202-20 ॥
