अन्ये तु नाना नृपपुत्रपौत्राः; कृष्णा गतैर नेत्रमनः सवभावैः वयायच्छमाना ददृशुर भरमन्तीं; संदष्ट दन्तच छदताम्रवक्त्राः ।। १-१७८-११ ।।

sanskrit

'And as Rama surveyed them slowly, he glanced with satisfaction at Krishna. The other heroes there, sons and grandsons of kings, their eyes, hearts, and minds fixed on Krishna, bit their lower lips in anger. They looked with widened eyes at Draupadi alone, oblivious to the Pandavas.' ।। 1-178-11 ।।

english translation

anye tu nAnA nRpaputrapautrAH; kRSNA gataira netramanaH savabhAvaiH vayAyacchamAnA dadRzura bharamantIM; saMdaSTa dantaca chadatAmravaktrAH || 1-178-11 ||

तथैव पार्थाः पृथु बाहवस ते; वीरौ यमौ चैव महानुभावौ तां दरौपदीं परेक्ष्य तदा सम सर्वे; कन्दर्प बाणाभिहता बभूवुः ।। १-१७८-१२ ।।

sanskrit

'And the sons of Pritha, with their mighty arms, and the illustrious twin heroes, upon beholding Draupadi, were similarly pierced by the arrows of Kama.' ।। 1-178-12 ।।

english translation

tathaiva pArthAH pRthu bAhavasa te; vIrau yamau caiva mahAnubhAvau tAM daraupadIM parekSya tadA sama sarve; kandarpa bANAbhihatA babhUvuH || 1-178-12 ||

देवर्षिगन्धर्वसमाकुलं तत; सुपर्णनागासुरसिद्धजुष्टम दिव्येन गन्धेन समाकुलं च; दिव्यैश च माल्यैर अवकीर्यमाणम ।। १-१७८-१३ ।।

sanskrit

'And it was crowded with celestial Rishis, Gandharvas, Suparnas, Nagas, Asuras, and Siddhas, adorned with celestial perfumes and strewn with celestial flowers.' ।। 1-178-13 ।।

english translation

devarSigandharvasamAkulaM tata; suparNanAgAsurasiddhajuSTama divyena gandhena samAkulaM ca; divyaiza ca mAlyaira avakIryamANama || 1-178-13 ||

hk transliteration

महास्वनैर दुन्दुभिनादितैश च; बभूव तत संकुलम अन्तरिक्षम विमानसंबाधम अभूत समन्तात; सवेणु वीणा पणवानुनादम ।। १-१७८-१४ ।।

sanskrit

'The entire sky reverberated with loud sounds of great conches and musical instruments, creating a gathering of celestial vehicles and a symphony of flutes, harps, and lutes.' ।। 1-178-14 ।।

english translation

mahAsvanaira dundubhinAditaiza ca; babhUva tata saMkulama antarikSama vimAnasaMbAdhama abhUta samantAta; saveNu vINA paNavAnunAdama || 1-178-14 ||

ततस तु ते राजगणाः करमेण; कृष्णा निमित्तं नृप विक्रमन्तः तत कारुमुकं संहननॊपपन्नं; सज्यं न शेकुस तरसापि कर्तुम ।। १-१७८-१५ ।।

sanskrit

'Then those princes—Karna, Duryodhana, Salwa, Salya, Aswatthaman, Kratha, Sunitha, Vakra, the rulers of Kalinga and Banga, Pandya, Paundra, the ruler of Videha, the chief of the Yavanas, and many other sons and grandsons of kings, sovereigns of vast realms with eyes resembling lotus-petals—one after another, adorned with crowns, garlands, bracelets, and other ornaments, endowed with mighty arms, prowess, vigor, and overflowing strength, attempted in vain to string that bow of extraordinary stiffness for winning the maiden of unrivaled beauty.' ।। 1-178-15 ।।

tatasa tu te rAjagaNAH karameNa; kRSNA nimittaM nRpa vikramantaH tata kArumukaM saMhananòpapannaM; sajyaM na zekusa tarasApi kartuma || 1-178-15 ||
