तच छरुत्वा सर्वपाञ्चालाः परणेदुः सिंहसंघवत न चैतान हर्षसंपूणान इयं सेहे वसुंधरा ।। १-१५५-४६ ।।

sanskrit

'This slender-waisted one will, in time, accomplish the purpose of the gods, and with her, many dangers will befall the Kauravas." On hearing these words, the Panchalas uttered a loud leonine roar, and the earth seemed unable to bear the weight of that joyous gathering.' ।। 1-155-46 ।।

english translation

taca charutvA sarvapAJcAlAH paraNeduH siMhasaMghavata na caitAna harSasaMpUNAna iyaM sehe vasuMdharA || 1-155-46 ||

hk transliteration

तौ दृष्ट्वा पृषती याजं परपेदे वै सुतार्थिनी न वै मद अन्यां जननीं जानीयाताम इमाव इति ।। १-१५५-४७ ।।

sanskrit

'Having seen the boy and the girl, Prishata's daughter-in-law, eager to claim them as her own, approached Yaja and pleaded, "Let no one else be acknowledged as their mother except me."' ।। 1-155-47 ।।

english translation

tau dRSTvA pRSatI yAjaM parapede vai sutArthinI na vai mada anyAM jananIM jAnIyAtAma imAva iti || 1-155-47 ||

तथेत्य उवाच तां याजॊ राज्ञः परियचिकीर्षया तयॊश च नामनी चक्रुर दविजाः संपूर्णमानसाः ।। १-१५५-४८ ।।

sanskrit

'Yaja, intending to benefit the king, replied, "So be it!" Then the Brahmanas present, fully satisfied with their expectations, bestowed names upon the newborn twins.' ।। 1-155-48 ।।

english translation

tathetya uvAca tAM yAjò rAjJaH pariyacikIrSayA tayòza ca nAmanI cakrura davijAH saMpUrNamAnasAH || 1-155-48 ||

धृष्टत्वाद अतिधृष्णुत्वाद धर्माद दयुत संभवाद अपि धृष्टद्युम्नः कुमारॊ ऽयं दरुपदस्य भवत्व इति ।। १-१५५-४९ ।।

'They said, "Let this son of King Drupada be named Dhrishtadyumna, for his extraordinary courage and his resemblance to Dyumna with inherent armor and weapon."' ।। 1-155-49 ।।

dhRSTatvAda atidhRSNutvAda dharmAda dayuta saMbhavAda api dhRSTadyumnaH kumArò 'yaM darupadasya bhavatva iti || 1-155-49 ||

hk transliteration

कृष्णेत्य एवाब्रुवन कृष्णां कृष्णाभूत सा हि वर्णतः तथा तन मिथुनं जज्ञे दरुपदस्य महामखे ।। १-१५५-५० ।।

sanskrit

'They said, "Let her be named Krishna," as she appeared dark-complexioned. Thus, that pair was known as such in the great lineage of Drupada.' ।। 1-155-50 ।।

kRSNetya evAbruvana kRSNAM kRSNAbhUta sA hi varNataH tathA tana mithunaM jajJe darupadasya mahAmakhe || 1-155-50 ||
