तत्रॊपकरणं गृह्य नरः कश चिद यदृच्छया राजन्न अनुजगामैकः शवानम आदाय पाण्डवान ॥ १-१२३-१६ ॥
'A servant, O king, leisurely followed the group, carrying the customary gear and accompanied by a dog.' ॥ 1-123-16 ॥

तेषां विचरतां तत्र तत तत कर्म चिकीर्षताम शवा चरन स वने मूढॊ नैषादिं परति जग्मिवान ॥ १-१२३-१७ ॥
'Entering the forest, they roamed about, focused on their objectives. Meanwhile, as the dog wandered alone in the woods, it encountered the Nishada prince, Ekalavya.' ॥ 1-123-17 ॥

स कृष्णं मलदिग्धाङ्गं कृष्णाजिनधरं वने नैषादिं शवा समालक्ष्य भषंस तस्थौ तद अन्तिके ॥ १-१२३-१८ ॥
'Upon seeing the dark-skinned Nishada, covered in dirt, clad in black attire, and sporting matted locks on his head, the dog began to bark loudly.' ॥ 1-123-18 ॥

तदा तस्याथ भषतः शुनः सप्तशरान मुखे लाघवं दर्शयन्न अस्त्रे मुमॊच युगपद यथा ॥ १-१२३-१९ ॥
'At this, as the dog continued to bark incessantly, Ekalavya, displaying his skill in archery, released seven arrows simultaneously, showcasing his prowess with the weapon.' ॥ 1-123-19 ॥

स तु शवा शरपूर्णास्यः पाण्डवान आजगाम ह तं दृष्ट्वा पाण्डवा वीरा विस्मयं परमं ययुः ॥ १-१२३-२० ॥
'As the dog approached the Pandavas, pierced with arrows, they were filled with great astonishment upon witnessing this scene.' ॥ 1-123-20 ॥
