[व] पाण्डॊर अवभृथं कृत्वा देवकल्पा महर्षयः ततॊ मन्त्रम अकुर्वन्त ते समेत्य तपस्विनः ।। १-११७-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Creating a divine pyre for Pandu, the great sages then performed the funeral rites. After that, they conducted the appropriate rituals along with the ascetics.' ।। 1-117-1 ।।

english translation

[va] pANDòra avabhRthaM kRtvA devakalpA maharSayaH tatò mantrama akurvanta te sametya tapasvinaH || 1-117-1 ||

hk transliteration

हित्वा राज्यं च राष्ट्रं च स महात्मा महातपाः अस्मिन सथाने तपस तप्तुं तापसाञ शरणं गतः ।। १-११७-२ ।।

sanskrit

'The virtuous and renowned King Pandu, relinquishing both sovereignty and kingdom, came here to practice ascetic austerities.' ।। 1-117-2 ।।

english translation

hitvA rAjyaM ca rASTraM ca sa mahAtmA mahAtapAH asmina sathAne tapasa taptuM tApasAJa zaraNaM gataH || 1-117-2 ||

hk transliteration

स जातमात्रान पुत्रांश च दारांश च भवताम इह परदायॊपनिधिं राजा पाण्डुः सवर्गम इतॊ गतः ।। १-११७-३ ।।

sanskrit

'And he surrendered himself to the ascetics dwelling on this mountain. Thus, he has ascended to heaven, leaving his wife and infant sons in our care as a trust.' ।। 1-117-3 ।।

english translation

sa jAtamAtrAna putrAMza ca dArAMza ca bhavatAma iha paradAyòpanidhiM rAjA pANDuH savargama itò gataH || 1-117-3 ||

hk transliteration

ते परस्परम आमन्त्र्य सर्वभूतहिते रताः पाण्डॊः पुत्रान पुरस्कृत्य नगरं नागसाह्वयम ।। १-११७-४ ।।

sanskrit

'They, mutually encouraging each other and dedicated to the welfare of all beings, honored Pandu's sons and, after bidding them farewell, returned to the city along with the king of the Nagas.' ।। 1-117-4 ।।

english translation

te parasparama Amantrya sarvabhUtahite ratAH pANDòH putrAna puraskRtya nagaraM nAgasAhvayama || 1-117-4 ||

उदारमनसः सिद्धा गमने चक्रिरे मनः भीष्माय पाण्डवान दातुं धृतराष्ट्राय चैव हि ।। १-११७-५ ।।

sanskrit

'Continuing, Vaisampayana said, 'Then those godlike Rishis, with hearts full of magnanimity and crowned with ascetic success, gathering together, decided to proceed to Hastinapura with Pandu's children leading the way, intending to entrust them into the care of Bhishma and Dhritarashtra.' ।। 1-117-5 ।।
