[व] तत्रापि तपसि शरेष्ठे वर्तमानः स वीर्यवान सिद्धचारणसंघानां बभूव परियदर्शनः ॥ १-१११-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, 'Pandu, possessed of great energy, then devoted himself to asceticism. Within a short time he became the favorite of the whole body of the Siddhas and Charanas residing there.' ॥ 1-111-1 ॥
english translation
[va] tatrApi tapasi zareSThe vartamAnaH sa vIryavAna siddhacAraNasaMghAnAM babhUva pariyadarzanaH ॥ 1-111-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशुश्रूषुर अनहंवादी संयतात्मा जितेन्द्रियः सवर्गं गन्तुं पराक्रान्तः सवेन वीर्येण भारत ॥ १-१११-२ ॥
'And, O Bharata, devoted to the service of his spiritual masters, free from vanity, with mind under complete control and the passions fully subdued, the prince, becoming competent to enter heaven by his energy, attained to great (ascetic) prowess.' ॥ 1-111-2 ॥
english translation
zuzrUSura anahaMvAdI saMyatAtmA jitendriyaH savargaM gantuM parAkrAntaH savena vIryeNa bhArata ॥ 1-111-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकेषां चिद अभवद भराता केषां चिद अभवत सखा ऋषयस तव अपरे चैनं पुत्रवत पर्यपालयन ॥ १-१११-३ ॥
'Some of the Rishis would call him brother, some friend, while others cherished him as their son.' ॥ 1-111-3 ॥
english translation
keSAM cida abhavada bharAtA keSAM cida abhavata sakhA RSayasa tava apare cainaM putravata paryapAlayana ॥ 1-111-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस तु कालेन महता पराप्य निष्कल्मषं तपः बरह्मर्षिसदृशः पाण्डुर बभूव भरतर्षभ ॥ १-१११-४ ॥
'And, O bull of Bharata's race, having acquired after a long time great ascetic merit coupled with complete singleness, Pandu became even like a Brahmarshi (though he was a Kshatriya by birth).' ॥ 1-111-4 ॥

sa tu kAlena mahatA parApya niSkalmaSaM tapaH barahmarSisadRzaH pANDura babhUva bharatarSabha ॥ 1-111-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसवर्गपारं तितीर्षन स शतशृङ्गाद उदङ्मुखः परतस्थे सह पत्नीभ्याम अब्रुवंस तत्र तापसाः उपर्य उपरि गच्छन्तः शैलराजम उदङ्मुखाः ॥ १-१११-५ ॥
'On a certain day of the new moon, the great Rishis of rigid vows assembled, and desirous of beholding Brahman were on the point of starting on their expedition.' ॥ 1-111-5 ॥

savargapAraM titIrSana sa zatazRGgAda udaGmukhaH paratasthe saha patnIbhyAma abruvaMsa tatra tApasAH uparya upari gacchantaH zailarAjama udaGmukhAH ॥ 1-111-5 ॥
