सत्कृतॊ ऽसक्तृतॊ वापि यॊ ऽनयां कृपण चक्षुषा उपैति वृत्तिं कामात्मा स शुनां वर्तते पथि ।। १-११०-२१ ।।

sanskrit

'Regardless of whether he is respected or disrespected in the world, the man who, driven by greed, casts a begging look at others certainly behaves like a dog. (Being unable to procreate, I should not, out of a desire for offspring, solicit others to give me children).' ।। 1-110-21 ।।

english translation

satkRtò 'saktRtò vApi yò 'nayAM kRpaNa cakSuSA upaiti vRttiM kAmAtmA sa zunAM vartate pathi || 1-110-21 ||

'Vaisampayana continued, 'The king, having thus wept in sorrow, with a sigh looked at his two wives Kunti and Madri, and addressed them.' ।। 1-110-22 ।।

'He said, "Let my mother, the princess of Kosala, Vidura, the king along with our friends, the venerable Satyavati, Bhishma, and the priests of our family, be informed."' ।। 1-110-23 ।।

'Let the noble Brahmins who partake in the Soma ritual, upholding strict vows, and all the respected elders under our care, be duly notified that Pandu has chosen to retire to the forest for a life of asceticism.' ।। 1-110-24 ।।

barAhmaNAza ca mahAtmAnaH sòmapAH saMzitavratAH pauravRddhAza ca ye tatra nivasantya asmada AzrayAH parasAdya sarve vaktavyAH pANDuH paravrajitò vanama || 1-110-24 ||
